Description

Last Days in the Desert follows Jesus (Ewan McGregor) in an imagined chapter from his forty days of fasting and praying in the desert. On his way out of the wilderness, he struggles with the Devil, also played by McGregor, over the fate of an ordinary family in crisis, setting for himself a dramatic test with distinctly human conflicts.

  • Suspect Story line; Could have been better

While I certainly appreciate movies that illustrate Biblical stories with artistic license, this movie departs from Biblical norms. This film could have been relevant but chose to make up several story lines with no trace of gospel authenticity. Don't waste your money unless it is 99 cents (currently $4 rental). Specifically, when Jesus meets up with "a family" in the desert, this was an opportunity for the director to illustrate a temptation from satan to test Jesus on His love for strangers (i.e., human beings) in the desert. In stead, the director concocted a storyline to fit a narrative that is not connected to sound doctrine as described in Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John. Historical accuracy: Movie is fundamentally flawed. When will a well funded movie about Jesus illustrate people from the region and not just Europe? Just think about that combined with a closing scene of two people wearing a blue and red jacket. This does not make any sense and just confuses the viewer. This film is for pure entertainment and falls short of keeping you "awake" for its length. Nevertheless, if this film helps anyone pick up a Bible or encourages someone to seek out Jesus then the movie has helped someone and therefore got the 1 ⭐️ star. Thats all I could truly pray for. May Jesus bless you all.
  • Too Slow

As a Christian, I was excited to give this movie a try. But I have to admit, it is so slow. It never really gets going. I understand the basic premise, but it doesn't really do a good job of driving that point home. I never really felt the 'struggle' of Jesus in the desert. I didn't see much in the way of tribulations or trials. I would have liked to see more interaction between Satan and Jesus. Very good acting and impressive sceneray (Anza Borrego) kept my focus.

It's really time to stop adding to the stupid fairy tales people are dumb enough to think are real. Grown people.. Crazy
  • This rendition of "jesus" is so inaccurate that it's comical!

For anyone who has not read the Bible for themselves, this is completely and utterly inaccurate, just like the movie Noah in 2014. If you want to get a complete and accurate look into what it was like between Jesus and His Father (God), then you need to read the actual Bible. On the other hand if you don't care about accuracy and want to watch this film just for fun then go head. I suggest watching this movie for entertaiment value, not because you want to learn the real facts about the Bible.

No car crashes or bullet riden bodies, no overt bible thumping (much appreciated...BTW). More deep thougt then candy. Trump supporters need not apply.

It laid a nice metaphor within the bible metaphor. Weird edits in the beginning. Beautifully shot. Very thoughtful and meditative. Don't understand the last shot with the red and blue shirts... otherwise a beautiful meditation. Possibly worth a second viewing, to glean a little more.

I do not know how accurate this movie is to the bible, but it gets at the meaning of life and why we should strive to be something more.

In some ways the film reminded me of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey in that it was visually stunning, very little dialogue, and content that is deeper than face value. This film is not for the fundamentalist (i.e., someone who perceives things only at face value or literally). It is a contemplative film.
