Glad I rented this on Redbox instead of paying $5 to rent or more to buy it. It was good but not something I'd watch more than once. Kind of like watching Batman vs Robin (although that was better than this one). DC used to make animated movies so good that I could easily buy them WITHOUT worrying whether they were good or not. Now I'm reconsidering heavily. I think the writers need to read their previous scripts and proof-read more before giving the go-ahead on a script. Warning, some spoilers: A) Talia's character conflicts with the earlier movie, Son of Batman (which was really good btw). **SPOILER ALERT** At the end of that one she calls Batman wise and that Damian should learn from his father. THIS movie, she does a complete 180! Tries to turn Batman or kill him and even tries to kill Damian. B) How Bat Woman was presented was very poorly thought out. **SPOILER ALERT** She's gay. And while nothing particularly wrong with that, they display it SO awkwardly. With the amount of stress they put on her sexuality, they would have had to explain WHY they stressed her sexuality so much. She ends up meeting up briefly with some chick at a bar (they could have stopped it there) and she STARTED explaining her complicated life and then had to leave to go find Batman. THEN near the end of the movie the girl from the bar GOES TO HER APARTMENT FOR BREAKFAST!! I'm sorry, that is a bit creepy when you haven't even HAD a first date. If I did that to someone I would be accused of being a stalker... C) **SPOILER ALERT** the whole Damian clone thing COMPLETELY came out of nowhere... In short, rent it from Redbox if you HAVE to see it. If you like it, then buy it.

Great animation, but I felt the story was a little weak

I very much enjoyed this movie. The voice work is excellent, the introduction of new characters is done brilliantly, and the writing and story are very, very good. This is a fairly faithful retelling of the “Battle for the Cowl” story arc from the Batman comics. My biggest complaints about the story are how rushed it seemed to be (although understandable considering the time constraints) as well as the lack of the Jason Todd character that was present in the comic story. The development of the relationship between Dick and Damian, both out of necessity and, later, just because they were actually becoming friends was excellent. All the reviewers who are complaining about the having “the LGBT agenda pushed down their throats”…just stop. News flash, if you know anything about the character of Kate Kane, she is indeed a lesbian in the comics. The point of using her sexuality in the movie is to give her character a more human side. When she’s Batwoman, she doesn’t need help, she doesn’t want help. By showing her in the scenes where she is confronted with ideas about her sexuality, it gives us a glimpse at her vulnerability. So again, just stop. Welcome to the 21st century. Overall, the only thing that keeps me from giving this a 5 is, again, the rushed pace and lack of Jason Todd. Other than that, ridiculously watchable and worth the purchase.

The story was very good, the pace was just right and the action sequences exciting. Seeing how these characters live in the shadow of Batman and then emerge as a family is why I am a fan and is why I keep coming back time and again. This story could easily set the stage for another regular series on TV or spin off a Batwoman series. Terriffic! That being said, I felt that Kate’s past could have been explored a bit more, especially the early years with Dick. Also, Talia and Heretic’s back-story could have been explained a little more. For me, I really thought that Yvonne Strahovski nailed the voice of Batwoman. There are certain moments when Batwoman is talking with Dick that I thought it was Sarah Walker talking about a mission with Chuck. And Robin Downes’s voice of The Mad Hatter was excellent. I think he stole a few scenes. I enjoyed the movie and the special features as well. I can’t wait for Justice League vs. Teen Titans!

Loved Batwoman and Nightwing in this, but they story is a little odd and forced. Still the animation, action, and character interaction was pretty good. Could have done without Batwing side story. Just hoping for the next film to have Batgirl as the ending hinted!
  • Great Bat-Family Story

This is more of a Dick Grayson and Katherine Cain story than Batman stand alone fodder. The voice acting is great. The animation is simply flawless and the fight scenes are without a doubt some of the best I've ever seen in a DC animated film. The best part is the introduction of Bat-Woman. Katherine Cain is almost unknown to the mainstream audience, but in this movie; she is done proudly and is a great addition to the Bat-family.

This movie was a waste of time and money for several reasons: 1) The plot is non-existent, while there is some good action there is no plot whatsoever. 2) Connecting to no plot is the fact that none of the characters have any depth... Batman is a detective and his enemies all have a level of depth and depravity to them, but not so in this movie. Every character is depicted in a very simple manner, and does not even act in accordance with the source material. 3) The desire to push the LGBT agenda...so I get that bat women is a lesbian, but the obvious lengths they went to portray her lifestyle were awful because they had nothing to do with the plot, and was just a distraction from the rest of the movie....not that it mattered because no care was given to properly write the characters( I.e. Batman or any of his supporting cast)... I feel insulted that I even paid for a movie that doesn't represent the character on purpose ( I know they could have done a better job as they have done in past movies) in order to push a social agenda.....well congrats you produced a movie with your social views but that was not entertaining at all....I will not be buying anymore movies from this point forward. If they feel they need to push social agendas in the movies I can get that free from cable if I wish...overall if you want a movie that is awful and that will push views on you then enjoy,if not I'd avoid this movie and thoroughly review the quality of future movies in order to avoid being ripped off.
