Doctor Who: The Krotons

It's an okay story, entertaining enough, though not one of the best.

ITunes needs Genisis of the Daleks! But still this is great!

One of Patrick Troughton's best episodes. Definitely worth the watch.

Thanks to Itunes, we can now revisit classic WHO from the past!!! The collection is great, but the fans are asking for MORE!!! I would especially love to see more of the first and second Doctors. Many WHO fans out there are interested in buyin, now itunes just has to do its part.

I was a skeptical how this old Doctor Who would be. I have to say I was a completely won over. The old fashioned effects were used very well and actually look a lot less shaky and dated than some of the props, sets and effects from the 1980s Doctor Who!! This story is convincing, well directed and builds suspense nicely throughout. The Krotons spaceship (the Dynatrope) is eerie indeed - especially when it tracks the Doctor and sends a device to kill him - it looked like something from the War of the Worlds. I have to say this is a real gem and I hope iTunes will add more 2nd Doctor stories.

Thanks for remembering those of us classic "Who-vians" ! Patrick Troughton was always my favourite of the original doctors, and I hope you will make more episodes available. I will certainly purchase them if you do !

I havent seen these since PBS stations carried them. This is where millions of us fell in love in the US with Dr Who!!! Please get more classic Who. I havent seen any new ones on here in AGES!!!!

I'm new to the Doctor experience... this episode was fun... neat to see the other incarnations of the Doctor in action. They need to add more of the black and white episodes, plus Doc #1... keep adding ... been awhile since any new ones .

While The Krotons is not the best of the Troughton era, nor even the best of the extant complete stories, it's great to see it offered on iTunes. The Second Doctor is far and away my favorite of the original series, and Jamie and Zoe among the best of the companions.

While this isn't one of Robert Holmes best scripts, it's an interesting, and amusing story. The Doctor and his companions, Jamie and Zoe, land on a desolate planet that smells of sulfur, and of course the Doctor wants to go explore. They witness a young man being gassed to death, and immediately try to find out what is going on. They find a colony of humans subservient to a race called the Krotons, who educates them in certain areas, but keeps them strangely ignorant in others (chemistry for example). The Doctor, of course doesn't like mystery and, discovers what the Krotons are, what they really want, and why do they keep taking the brightest of the humans and killing them. If you've only seen the new series with David Tennant or Christopher Eccleston, I wouldn't recommend starting with this story. However, if you enjoy classic sci fi serials that slowly reveal themselves over 4 or more episodes, sit down with a nice cup of tea and enjoy. The chemistry between the main characters (Patrick Troughton, Frazer Hines and Wendy Padbury) is excellent, and you truly sense how much they enjoyed working together. The design of the Krotons is fun and unique, and shows how much creativity you can have with a severely limited budget. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this Patrick Troughton story, and I'd like for iTunes to add more Troughton, and perhaps a few Hartnell stories as well.
