  • TV version please!

I was unhappy to see that they didn't put it the TV family friendly version of the pilot. Because of the nudity in a violent rape type of situation I couldn't watch with kids. iTunes you can do better. No one who watches the TV series expects to have this rawness thrust on them. Overall, I enjoy the show, but they need to put the TV cut in the pilot not this. Please change!
  • Great show, terrible transfer

I love this show, which is a nice continuation of the original movie even if the movie's writer and director didn't like it. It's well-crafted, and like Star Trek, it provides some morality tales along with the action and adventure. There's also a nice dash of humor that keeps it from getting too heavy. So why did I give it only two stars? Because of the lousy picture quality here on iTunes. I downloaded the pilot to have a look before deciding to download or buy DVDs, and iTunes fails. It's in widescreen as originally shot, and it's largely uncensored, but the picture quslity is terrible, with faded colors and a lack of visual detail. It comes across like an old, faded VHS tape. The Hulu presentation, by contrast, has much better picture quality, with sharper details (streamed in HD) and richer colors. Unfortunately, Hulu's prints are cropped to 4x3 for the first 7 seasons, and there is some censoring. A better choice is the newer DVD sets, in the clear cases with white title sleeves. They're widescreen and completely uncensored, the picture quality is as good as can be made on DVD, and they cost half as much per season as iTunes charges -- just $10 per season at Amazon.com.
  • Best show ever

This show is so great. If you need something to watch that will get your mind off and out of this world, this is it. The first season (and certainly the first episode) is not the best (it had to go off the mediocre 1994 film, so of course it's not super great), but it only gets better from there. It hits its sweet spot in season three and keeps going. Beautiful mythology, funny and quirky characters, and great writing. I must say, though, as one one-star reviewer said, it does suffer from "imaginary science" -- because it is a science FICTION show. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at a review. But they do so well with keeping everything relatively believable for a science fiction show, unlike many others. And the writers and cast make fun of themselves because they realize this show is completely ridiculous - making it even more fun! So honestly you could not get better than Stargate SG-1 if you love science fiction and are tired of the doom and gloom dystopian shows and movies that have been taking up the genre for the past few years. This one is a fun one.

It’s a great show, great humor, and a good cast. Heck, it went 10 years! How many sci-fi shows crash and burn after only 1 or 2? SG1 is timeless!

Stunning that this hokey, jokey, cornball and dumbed-down spinoff of the movie lasted an entire decade, morphing into Farscape-meets-Marvel-Comics along the way. Half the cast couldn't even pronounce the name of the major bad guy aliens -- and really, what kind of a name for an evil alien species is Goa'uld? And whose idea was it to make the dopey-acting MacGyver guy the star? This may have been the first and longest-running of the SG franchise, but Atlantis was a whole lot more watchable -- better writing, better cast, better production values. (SGU, on the other hand, deserved its early death.) O for the days of Star Trek spinoffs and Firefly.

I am very disappointed that this hasn't been caught... There is complete frontal nudity. There is no caution. No warning, just TV-14 and that's just sad!!!!
