Description

Audiences cheer the first season of this poignant and powerful drama. The intimate storytelling and inspired performances involve the viewer with an authentic portrait of life, love, family, and friendships that really hits home. Coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler) is under intense pressure from the entire town to lead the high-school football team to the championship. Wife Tami (Connie Britton, also from the hit movie) provides loving support as the school’s counselor. The young people face their own challenges: the former-star fighting to overcome a tragic injury; the cheerleader torn by conflicting emotional loyalties to two players; the quarterback overwhelmed with responsibilities on and off the field (while dating the coach's daughter); the cocky running back who's turned to performance enhancers. All this and more come together for a truly human drama.

Believe the hype. No interest in football? Hated high school? It doesn't matter. Friday Night Lights is one of the most realistic examinations of America ever seen on TV, network AND cable. Raw, realistic, extraordinary character development, and perhaps the most emotionally affecting series I have ever seen. Expect to be reduced to weeping tears multiple, and I mean multiple times each season. This is one of those shows that is so compelling, so honest, you still wonder how these characters are doing, knowing full well it's fiction. I've never been moved by television like this before.

This has got to be one of the best shows I've ever seen! Started watching it right before Season 5 and couldn't get enough. This show was definitely the "underdog" for ratings despite their amazing reviews. You really connect with the characters and the town. I can't express how wonderfully written and directed this show was. Never too late to invest in watching it.

I just started watching the series a month ago. I could not stop watching it once I started! I always felt like no one was acting in the show, it was all very natural the way everyone interacted with each other. I bought all the seasons and would watch them for hours on Saturdays, I just had to see what was going to happen to these kids! My husband thinks I am crazy as I am telling him we need to move to a small town so we can get involved with the kids and football :) Great lessons for kids and for parents that watch this show. Eric Taylor (the FB coach) was amazing, the writers made his character such a strong man, good husband, father and mentor. His wife on the show such advocate of children and the education process. You must watch it! Its not too late!

How can character, values, exemplary relationships, and a slogan Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose make compelling television against the great shows that have the rampant dysfunction of the real world to work with? "Best show ever on TV" is overused. For me, that "best show" is - and possibly remains - The Wire. But I am only halfway through Season 4. I watched Season 4 Episode "The Son" on the eve of the 9/11 anniversary. There was no need for me to watch anything else. Just when you think things are getting a bit "teen soap opera" FNL will hit you with a 55 gallon drum of raw humanity. FNL is about heroism, honor, selfless love, commitment, responsibility, and courage. And there might be some football stuff in it too. But football is not the point. I would recommend this show to anybody. Watch the Pilot. Then try to not keep watching.
