Description

James Clayton might not have the attitude of a typical CIA recruit, but he is one of the smartest graduating seniors in the country - and he's just the person that Walter Burke wants in the Agency. James regards the CIA's mission as an intriguing alternative to an ordinary life, but before he becomes an Ops Officer, James has to survive the Agency's secret training ground, where green recruits are molded into seasoned veterans. As Burke teaches him the ropes and the rules of the game, James quickly rises through the ranks and falls for Layla, a fellow recruit. But just when James starts to question his role and his cat-and-mouse relationship with his mentor, Burke taps him for a special assignment to root out a mole.

If you are not familiar with this piece, I should warn you it was not originally made for an English speaking audience. In fact Roger Donaldson is so skilled a director that he made two different movies using the same scenes and actors. To those who understand English, The Recruit is an action-packed spy fest. But to those viewers who are blessed to be able to see this movie in its original Swahili, all the action scenes are in fact dance numbers and the movie tells the tale of a young man trying to grow up to be a short order cook in a big city.

The plot is transparent from the first. There is no mystery. There are a lot of less than mediocre foot and automobile chases. The film is puffed with them. I'm curious about how Al Pacino and Colin Farrell were convinced to do The Recruit. Hmm. Must be the money. Farrell is cute. Those two stars are for him.
  • Buy please?
