One of my all time favorites. I've been trying to find the soundtrack. I'm taking a long trip out west, and want to listen to it while driving. Would be perfect. If anyone has any info on where I could purchase it please let me know. Thanks

This is one of my all time favorite westerns. The music helps to build the drama. I particularly love the fact that while the Indians are the "enemy," their ill treatment is not ignored. There are a lot of nuances in this movie that give it depth and which keep you on the edge of your seat. Garner plays a true man of the west, a real frontiersman that you admire for his knowledge, his courage, and how much he loved his wife. A Black cowboy is also a nice feature of this movie. Warning! If you watch the preview of this movie, it does not include the Neal Hefti theme song everyone keeps talking about.

A horrible movie. Big name cast with a worthless script. I would say it was a potboiler, but there is no way it would boil much of anything except viewers. The characters don't have the depth of cardboard cutouts. It may have cost only $2.99 but it wasn't worth a single penny of it.
  • Great Film; Fabulous Soundtrack By Neal Hefti

This is a grim film; the tension builds all the way to the end. However, the soundtrack is what hooks me every time I watch this movie. It was a rare Neal Hefti soundtrack and it's just a work of genius. Why don't they release this entire soundtrack on CD? They already released it on vinyl.

The Score is very haunting and lends well to the action. It is filled with subplots. Garner wants to find the killer of his wife. Sidney just wants to get paid. Travers wants to become a general. Bibi wants her child, and the indians want to kill them all. Be sure to have a cool drink of water handy while watching this movie.
  • Very Good Shoot Em Up Western

Good opening scene (gunfight) as all good westerns start. Actors Poitier, Garner, Weaver and Bill Travers are great in this flick. Very balanced commentary on the necessities/ills of 19th century expansion westward by focusing on individual hardship/hardluck stories. Multiple tight plotlines keep your interst throughout and ultimitely converge with satisfying resolutions in the suspenseful grand finale. I really like the musical score...hauntingly uplifting. Reminds me of a Morricone theme. Also, the stunts involving horses in this movie are some of the best I have ever seen! It's definitely worth 10 bucks. You'll watch it many times.
