Description

A dinosaur egg is stolen from its nest and passed along by various birds, animals and other predators each hoping to eat it. Fumbled into a community of kind and nurturing lemurs, it cracks open and Aladar, a baby dinosaur emerges. He lives happily and peacefully among the lemurs, who raise him into adolescence. However, when a natural disaster occurs, wiping out the beautiful rainforest that was their home, teenage Aladar joins a dinosaur pilgrimage--and discovers his true ancestry--in order to bring his lemur family to safety.

I loved this movie as a little kid and 18 years later it is still as amazing as I remember. I was excited to show it to my son that is in love with dinosaurs. It’s is a little violent but he likes Jurassic Park too and this seemed like a much better fit for him .

Man, I wish I could have seen this in the theater. This is one of my favorite Disney movies. It’s so unique among so many of the other films that Disney has produced. If you’ve done some reading on the making of this movie, you know that a LOT of work was done to get it out to the public. And even before they actually got it off the ground, it took years before Dinosaur was finally going someplace. Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, I think this an awesome movie. The story is pretty good, but where this film really shines are the special effects and the visuals. You see cool landscapes and intense action sequences. The computer animation is also dang good. Here it is, 2018, and the dinosaurs still look quite realistic. The lemurs, not so much, but big deal. Add to all this a memorable soundtrack by James Newton Howard and you have a thrilling movie that literally everyone in the family can enjoy!

I was really dissapointed with this movie. The plot is slow, and the main characters just walk around a bunch, it's kind of boring. This movie is basically coping The Land Before Time, released in 1988. It’s not funny at all, I don't remember lauging once throughout the film. The only thing I liked about this movie was the animation. Looking for a good Disney movie to watch, this is not a good choice.
  • Love It!!! 😄

Disney's foray into Live Action/CGI blend is done very well. As always, they craft lovable characters from our protagonist Aladar (I've still got wallpaper of this movie on the top of my bedroom wall) to his lemur family, to the elderly (and a few young) dinosaurs. The plot, while sharing many traits with almost every Disney Animated movie EVER, is very intriguing: Dinosaur raised by lemurs is forced to travel with other dinosaurs to a safe haven after a fireball (or as we humans would call it, asteroid) wipes out the vegetation and water of their lands. The cruel leader, Kron, is leading a herd to safe haven with little or no rest, and leaves behind anyone who can't keep up. The picture is great, CGI coupled with live action locations, similar to the BBC Documentary Walking with Dinosaurs. The problem here: Too much CGI! This movie can show how too much CGI effects the picture. It still looks great, and the characters more than make up for it. The dialogue is what you'd expect, but it otherwise does its job. James Newton Howard, as always, does a brilliant job with the score. This may feel like another Disney movie, but it's certainly inspirational.
