Description

Honus Gent, a U.S. soldier devoted to his duty, and Cresta, a white woman who had lived with the Cheyenne for two years, are the only two survivors of a slaughter committed by the Cheyennes on a cavalry group. Together they are hoping to stay alive until they reach the cavalry's base camp. As they travel, Honus feels a growing affection for Cresta, but he is disgusted with her anti-American beliefs as she has more sympathy for Indians than for the U.S. government. They arrive at the cavalry outpost on the eve of an attack on a Cheyenne village, where Honus will learn who has been telling him the truth.

  • An honest western

This was the most honest movie I have ever seen about how the west was "won". Too much of our history has come to us censored to protect us from the truth. This is not one of them.

A very accurate depiction of the west. Created in 1970. Way ahead of its time. Be prepared to laugh and cry. A beautiful Candace Bergen is the lead actress. I am only sorry it took 46 yrs to realize this movie was around.

Soldier Blue is somewhat of an oddity: sugary romance with nauseating violence. Sadly this is cut but still contains most of the violence. Saw it in the cinema when released in Scotland when the censors didn’t quite know what to do with it. Final massacre is still troubling though trimmed. Was originally PG as released in the states so it’s impressive this version is available at all….and in High Def, Widescreen. I have all the other versions from different countries and none are censor free…this is as good as it gets. One issue I have is with the cover art. whoever came up with this needs to go back to art school. The classic and original artwork showing the naked woman kneeling with her hands tied behind her back is iconic.

This is a silly bit of fluff -- "western" only because of the material. Poor writing, terrible acting -- really only the message at the end is of note. Really a total waste of time and money. I kept waiting for it to get better.

I saw this movie in a cinema when I was an exchange student in Finland, it was very upsetting to be the lone American. I'm looking forward to watching it again 41yrs later.
