Description

A quirky genius with a sharp wit and a provocative worldview, Dean Kamen is our era's Thomas Edison. He takes on the world's grand challenges one invention at a time. Best known for his Segway Human Transporter, Kamen has reconceived kidney dialysis, engineered an electric wheelchair that can travel up stairs (the Ibot), reworked the heart stent, built portable insulin pumps, founded FIRST robotics to inspire young students, and on and on.Holder of over 440 patents, Kamen devotes himself to dreaming up products that improve people's lives. For the last 15 years, he has relentlessly pursued an effective way to clean up the world's water supply and has invented an energy efficient vapor compression distiller that can turn any unfit source of water (seawater, poisoned well water, river sludge, etc.) into potable, safe water without any need for chemical additives or filters. SlingShot is a film about an indomitable man who just might have enough passion, will, and innovative thinking to create a solution for a crisis that affects billions.

This movie captivates the audience with the growing water crisis that is breaking out in places like Africa. Dean Kamen's invention can not only help people needing pure distilled water, but with people needing medical grade water. This documentary truly inspires people to pay attention to the water shortage; and do something about it.

I really enjoyed this movie. What a great heart as well as incredible genius hath Mr. Dean Kamen. He is a great subject for a documentary, a truly human being. You want to have this guy over for dinner, you want to hand him whatever he needs to get it done...you want him to succeed, for sure. Thanks to Paul Lazarus for so sensitively telling his story.

I’ve been waiting for this come out since I first saw the movie at the Heartland Film Festival in Indianapolis. It is inspiring and thought-provoking. I’ve had more great post-talk conversations than any movie I’ve see in a long time. Feel like I really got to know Kamen - he let’s us see him at his best and his most challenging times. I’m now following him with the new prosthetic - sharing the journey. Great movie to watch with kids. Hope he gets the water device up and running so he can focus his energy on time travel.

This documentary truly demonstrates the difference that one person can make. It also illustrates the journey of the innovator and entrepreneur --- the vision, persistence, resourcefulness and leadership -- required to get an idea from conception to reality. Dean Kamen should be an inspiration to everyone young and old.

A must see! This movie is amazing. It sends out a positive message to the world on a man working to solve the water crisis. Dean Kamen’s work really inspires you to go out there. I saw it in theaters in Santa Monica and stayed for the Q&A with Director Paul Lazarus. Slingshot filmmakers were very dedicated to creating awareness and took the time to come out to answer any questions the audience had.

The potential power of the Slingshot machine Kamen invented, could empty half the world’s hospital beds, virtually overnight by delivering clean water to every corner of the world. I loved this movie. It gets the word out in such a cool way. Check it out.

Dean Kamen ... a revolutionary innovator, unsurpassed at this point in time ... and most likely for a long time to come. We attended a robotics team sponsored screening with our 9 year old grandson and were absolutely amazed!! There is a place waiting for his picture on the wall of famous inventors.
