  • A great film on a great play

I’m not a disinterested reviewer, but reading what’s written below makes me very sad for the state of our educational system. I don’t think the filmmakers were trying to fool people into not realizing this is a Shakespeare play. Nor would I say it’s in “Shakespeare speak,” exactly. Rubles are a currency in Russia/Eastern Europe (really??) People, Shakespeare is considered by many to be the greatest writer in the history of our language, if not history, in general. This is a legit movie made out of one of his lesser known plays that I and a lot of others who know about things think deserves a closer look. Give it a bad review for the acting, or directing, or cinematography, score/sound, lighting, whatever…but please have some sense of anything when rejecting this movie because of the language. There’s being ignorant, and then there’s being stupid. Some incredible performances by great actors and others you wouldn’t expect. The director sets it in a modern industrial town with wit, irony, and ultimately a lot of hope. It’s not a big budget film, but has a huge cast of big budget actors. “Cymbeline" is worth the time, if not only to get to know this brilliant play.

Sorry... I turned it off, I couldn't get through the first 15 minutes. But if you're into Shakespeare speak, this is for you.

This movie can only be appreciated by people well versed in Shakespearian plays. I am sure actors are all gaga over the movie, but not John Q. Public.
  • It's aweful!

You see all those great people, and your thinking it's got to be good right. Your thinking Ed Harris is in it, it has to be good! Don't do it, it's horrible.

Looks good in the preview, but then the characters start speaking Ye Olde English and you can’t understand a thing that’s going on. 90 minutes better spent doing almost anything else.
