Description

The combination of Marilyn Monroe's light comic skills and Sir Laurence Olivier's magnificent dramatic talent make for a delightful and enchanting period romance. A saucy American showgirl in London is wooed by a roving-eyed Duke, but his estranged son, the young King, interrupts their late supper with politics and angry accusations. Through her guileless approach to both love and politics, Monroe charms them into reconciliation. Olivier directed on location in London, from a script based on the popular play.

I'm not a fan of Olivier, in general, having seen him in, I suppose, all the wrong roles. He's a lot more fun in this, playing a farcically serious character. Marilyn is a delight, with that sweetness and energy peculiar to her.

I have watched a couple of Marilyn's movies and I have to say that they all have been nothing short of superb. This movie is not a movie I would pick if I were watching Marilyn for the first time, but it is a really wonderful movie. It is very different from what she normally does and I love that about her. She really was a great actress! When I saw this on I tunes I rented it right away. The trailer of this movie says it all. Though I do not think Laurence was good for this role. I have to say Marilyn did a splendid job.Without her this movie wouldn't make you love the characters and the story so much.
