Gettysburg: Extended Edition

Please fix subtitles! Maybe a dozen errors throughout the movie (Fredericksburg/“burn the sword”)

Anyone that wants to learn the basics of who these men were that fought in the Civil War should watch this masterpiece.

This is the best depiction of the battles of the Civil War in film. Truly amazing and impactful in scope and personal depth. With the rampant decreasing knowledge of history among American youth, the struggle of the Civil War must be remembered. It was bloody and a massive loss of life that tore this nation apart. Many sacrifices for causes they believed in while others were “doing their duty” for their families and homes. As so many clueless people try and tear down statues of leaders of the North and South, they should first understand the price so many paid. They should understand the issues involved and how Lincoln, Grant, and countless boys and young men gave everything to end slavery and give freedom to millions. Anyway, a wonderful movie that has no equal. Hopefully, the hate and destruction we see on America’s streets will take pause and better reflect how we are all in this together.

The original was amazing, but this extended version is tedious. Amazing how someone can ruin a great movie. Very disappointed

Awesome movie about the Battle of Gettysburg, but can you please add the Special Features and iTunes Extras and also upgrade to 4K so people can watch them online? Also, can you merge the theatrical and extended versions together in one set? This is really annoying to me when the Special Features appear on the Home Video releases of movies, but not on iTunes because technology is advancing everyday.

Lackluster with poor and overacting. The musical score was off, overbearing and unnecessary. Difficult to sit through the entire length of the movie. This is just a review of the movie and not of true events itself.

Much of this is very good but they repeatedly hit the breaks while someone launches into some overly sentimental soliquoy, as if each of these speeches were the grand summation of the entire film.

I absolutely love this movie and I cannot wait to go visit Gettysburg soon. The acting is incredible and so is the music. A very moving story. The book was good and interesting. I loved how some of the actors looked so much like the real men. Especially, Jeff Daniels and Chamberlain looked so much alike side by side in a picture. Definitely among one of my favorite Civil War movies. Can’t wait to see it again ❤️

Great for film fans and historians alike, Gettysburg has so much to offer. It’s such a faithful rendering of Michael Shaara’s “The Killer Angels”, that the book seems to unravel chapter by chapter as the movie progresses. Wonderfully cast and clearly made with a lot of love, thousands of dedicated re-enactors take the place of standard extras and give life to those three days in the Pennsylvania summer. Jeff Daniels gives (to me) the performance of his career as the legendary Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. I’ve read his biography and Daniels seems to truly speak with Chamberlain’s resonant voice. The scenes with his brother Thomas, played wonderfully by C. Thomas Howell give both levity and deep human connection to well-known scenes of the battle. Tom Berenger as Longstreet is another high point, his monologues are hard to forget and you feel the same sense of hopelessness and inevitability the General described in the novel. I could go on about the music and Sam Elliot (always perfect on a horse) or the wide, sweeping shots across the field during Pickett’s doomed charge, or just tell you the movie is absolutely worth your time. Aside from the slightly awkward hiccup of Martin Sheen bringing a sleepy, mouth-breathing matronliness to Lee, I wouldn’t change a single thing about this great American film classic!

Really good movie. Worth watching
