Description

A coming of age story set in 1975 working-class Brooklyn, in which two teenage brothers living with their abusive father and their well-meaning but ineffective mother are caught up in a life of petty crime. Older brother Danny concocts a daring scheme to steal enough money for the two to escape, timed around the chaos of an upcoming Rolling Stones concert. The sensitive younger brother, Brian, ultimately has a choice: remain loyal to the brother with whom he shares a powerful love-hate bond, or use his hidden talent as an artist as his own ticket out of their dead-end existence.

'White Irish Drinkers' is not to be missed! The authenticity of place and time, and the stunning performances from the star-studded cast are two tremendous aspects of this film . Unexpected plot twists and complex character work take the viewer on a moving and transformational journey that will leave you wanting to see this film again and again - a true testament to the brilliance of writer/director John Gray. Great work!
  • Best Actor Oscar should go to Stephen Lang!

I saw this movie in the theater and really enjoyed it! Given the title, I didn't really know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised by how entertaining it was! I liked the storyline (wonderful plot twist at the end!) and the acting was all great. I especially liked Stephen Lang's performance and every time he came on screen I got goosbumps! The music was really cool too and since I didn't recognize it, I went online and downloaded it...The Shillaly Brothers are awesome!

Fantastic film I laughed and cried and they made it surprisingly easy to enjoy. I went in not expecting much and left raving about it! I walked into a coffee shop in Brooklyn and overheard two elderly women (born and bred brooklyn) speaking about the film and how much it brought them back in time. Recommend it fully.

Very well cast, excellent cinematography. Having grown up in the 70's as , well, a white irish drinker, I identified with the characters and premise in a big way!! It was great on the big screen and I look forward to having this in my library. Oh yeah, amazing soundtrack!!

This movie was amazing! I laughed and I cried and was totally surprised by some of the truly unexpected turn of events in the story. Even though I didn't grow up in Brooklyn, I could relate to so many of the happenings in the story. The music is grand, the movie brilliant! I highly recommend this to everyone!

White Irish Drinkers is a great movie. It's moving, inspiring, funny and has some jaw-dropping twists and turns. When I saw it in the theater several people around me were crying. Stephen Lang gives an amazing, Oscar-worthy performance as the alcoholic father. Great story, well-acted, interestingly filmed, with a cool soundtrack. Having grown up on Long Island in the 70s this depiction on 1975 Bay Ridge, Brooklyn really hit home for me. Two thumbs up!

Veteran Writer-Director John Gray captures a specific time and place with such authority and assurance you are utterly transported. And the journey is full of pleasures large and small. The movie is gripping and startling, intimate and expansive, fueled by a tragicomic family drama that has you on the edge of your seat, filled with hope and dread, for the entire length of the film. The characters are vividly drawn and refreshingly real. And the ending packs a satisfying wallop, in more ways than one, which comes fast on the heels of a twist that no one sees coming. I recommend it strongly! -- P.K.S., Cape Cod, Massachusetts, June 15, 2011

It reminded me of Saturday Night Fever - but replace the disco with the Rolling Stones. This film has one of THE best surprise endings I have ever seen. There needs to be an Oscar for "Best Ending."

This is an amazing independent film that doesn't sacrifice viewability for artistic merit. It has both. The filming and cinematography is something you would expect from a blockbuster film, and the acting is amazing. Everything including the plot twist is expertly crafted, as you'd come to expect from Ghost Whisperer creator John Gray. This is an excellent coming of age film that quite possibly a lot of people could relate to, and it has something for everyone. It has action, romance, suspense, and humor. Great addition to iTunes.
