Description

An unexplained blackout plunges the city of Detroit into total darkness, and by the time the sun rises, only a few people remain, surrounded by heaps of empty clothing, abandoned cars and lengthening shadows. A small handful of strangers that have survived the night (Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton, John Leguizamo and Jacob Latimore) each find their way to a rundown bar. With daylight beginning to disappear completely and whispering shadows surrounding the survivors, they soon discover that the enemy is the darkness itself.

  • cool concept and decent performances

Saw this awhile ago and I thought the concept of the darkness was cool but I think very derivative which is not really a bad thing necessarily. There is some urgency felt through most of the movie as the darkness continues to encroach. So it has a feeling of dread throughout. I am not sure on the ending as I do not remember but I do remember I came away feeling disappointed. Also the acting is not oscar worthy but the performances are still decent for a lower budget movie and there are some big names in this which helps.

This film held true to the old horror films in the regard it never really shows a lot; leaving a lot to the imagination. Sometimes the things "too in your face" have been done so many times they're not scary or realistic, so I was happy with the moments that built up. My only complaint is that this film had a lot of potential but dragged out and seemed to end too abruptly. Good concept, but there's room for improvements.

Not a wholly great film, there are some aspects that were well done; the acting, for one, was top notch ( especially that of the young Jacob Latimore and John Leguizamo), and the story was actually intriguing. Falls flat in certain places, and does not do enough to answer some of the more pertinent questions that arise by the end of the film; what exactly is happening? Where are these people going? and, What happens after the lights go out? Not bad, but not that good either. Perfect middle of the road film.
  • Really good, except the ending.

Everything in this movie was awesome, except for the ending. The ending is the reason why this movie has bad reviews. Nothing is explained and it's just really bad. I still love this movie though.

Watched as my first horror movie. Pretty good, had me up half the night. Didn't understand the ending though. Overall 4/5. Waiting for part 2. Worth the 14.99 if that was for HD... Not worth that much for SD. SD should be 11.99.
  • Could have been 3 stars if it was finished

I don't look for life changing experiences with movies, but I at least expect them to come to some sort of a conclusion. Even a hint at a sequel is an ok way to end a movie...like Inception. This movie's ending was just...unfinished. It was a decent enough movie for suspension of disbelief (make you immerse yourself), so that makes the ending even more frustrating. Stay away from this one.
