Description

The "witches" are in three modern-day women yearning for Mr. Right in a quaint New England town full of Mr. Uptights. Played glowingly by Cher (Moonstruck), Susan Sarandon (Lorenzo's Oil) and Michelle Pfeiffer (The Age of Innocence), they're lovely enough to tempt even the most jaded netherworld denizen. Soon, wealthy Daryl van Horne (Nicholson) arrives. Is his sudden appearance a coincidence or the outcome of the women's unconscious sorcery in this smooth adaptation of John Updyke's novel?

  • Transfer Shakes Left/Right

Something happened during the transfer of this movie to digital and the entire movie shakes left and right a little bit. I had to shut it off after a few minutes on my 92" screen as it was making me motion sick. I don't know for the life of me how whomever transferred this movie didn't notice the film position alternating out of position like that, but I'd like my money back. Be warned. You may not notice on a smaller screen, but it's terrible on a really large one.

One of the favourite movies of my adolescence in the 80's - and still so much fun and entertaining! But I almost forgot how geniously Veronica Cartwright is playing... in my option she's the best one of the whole cast and generally much underrated!

I would have liked _less_ cherry vomit, _more_ turnip baby. Stellar acting all around.

I know a lot of people who hate on this movie but I don't quite get why. It's one of Nicholson's funniest performances; it's very pleasant to spend a little time with the trio of beauties; the story is a fun fantasy, kind of like a Stephen King story with a Ph.D.; the FX toward the end are pretty hilarious. I'm told it strays far from the Updike book, but who cares? It's true that its war-of-the-sexes message gets awfully murky, but as a parody of the Playboy/Penthouse male view of women it's pretty spot on. It's not great but it's quite good and entertaining.
