Description

A non-religious hair stylist in her mid-20s, Frankie Paige (Patricia Arquette) receives a rosary from her mother and begins speaking in other voices, being attacked by unseen forces, and developing stigmata, bleeding wounds on her wrists, feet and side that are associated with the Passion of Christ. A Vatican Cardinal (Jonathan Pryce) examines her, and sends Father Andrew Kiernan (Gabriel Byrne) to investigate Frankie to ascertain if the events and stigmata are indeed a miracle from God. However, Father Andrew quickly finds that the need to verify the Devine is far less important than saving Frankie’s life. Score by Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins.

I usually shy away from this type of movie but have to say this delivered. Its intelligent moody and well written. Ignore the reviews they clearly didnt understand what they were watching.

Why do you watch a movie? The reason impacts the outcome of your acceptance. The Critics reveiw no longer has meaning. There is more to this time, space, matter reality then outwardly acknowledged. This movie does a great job (acting, story line, and production) of exposing one to alternative thinking. What is real and not real? Well, it is all real . . . So, you either understand or you don't and that impacts how you view this movie.
  • A Great Movie with a Powerful Message

For those of you who don't know what Stigmata is, it is a belief that for those who have been touched by god gets to inherit the five wounds of christ. This movie is about an atheist who actually recieved these wounds while being possessed by a being. While she is trying to survive these wounds, the catholic church does everything in their power to have this covered up. For in the end while she goes through these wounds, there is a powerful message that the churches wanted to keep a secret. This is a great movie. Loved it when I first saw it. When you get to the end and understand the message, it is actually true. This maybe a horror flick, but you maybe spiritually inspired in the end feeling good. Which is rare in a horror film.

The title says it all. See it. Very well done with actors that excelled at pulling this one off.
