A blacklisted writer has a friend act as a front for his TV scripts. The front becomes famous and falls in love with a script editor. He has to face the truth when he is called before an investigative committee to testify.

A surprisingly not well known Woody special

It's wonderful when a clever screenwriter,director, and actors are able to turn a smart script into a funny, deep and also sad movie. There is, quite clearly, a much deeper point in this movie, but it is told in a way that you don't feel the medicine going down and its point is made intelligently, elegantly and with humor and strength. I was very very pleasantly surprised by this somewhat hidden gem.
