Description

A stellar cast, headed by Kevin Kline and Michelle Pfeiffer, bring Shakespeare's romantic comedy to life. When two pairs of star-crossed lovers, a feuding pair of supernatural sprites, and a love potion gone awry all come together in an enchanted moonlit forest, the result is a delightful mix of merriment and magic. Also starring Calista Flockhart, Stanley Tucci, Rupert Everett and Christian Bale.

This is a slightly modernized version of the original Shakespearean play, it still has the heart of Shakespeare and is wonderfully acted by the entire cast. Truly a fantastic movie worth owning.

An excellent, well-cast, and well-acted adaptation of the Bard. It is a pity one of the reviewers above didn't take the time to learn enough in his English class to understand the play. I can understand that the Elizabethan form of the language is a barrier for some, especially those who have not learned the changes in meanings of the words in that time, but Shakespeare is well worth the effort. His writing was witty, amusing, and poetic - and also informs us of much of the human condition, which hasn't changed appreciably since his time. Kline was excellent as Bottom, bringing a new interpretation to that role. Pfeiffer's Titania was well done, and Tucci made an excellent Puck.

I had just seen this movie on VHS at a friend's house and was so thrilled to find this available on iTunes! Each actor involved gave a wonderful performance and it was especially enjoyable to see actors that I never would have dreamed in such roles, (Christian Bale as Demetrius and Kevin Kline as Bottom) play their roles to such a T. A must-have for any lover of Shakespeare!

A reasonably faithful adaptation of Shakespeare's original play with a 19th century twist added for good fun. The movie itself is rather low budget in terms of costumes and special effects, but the acting is lovely and the scripting is exactly as our dear William wrote it. Please take the time to purchase this wonderful work of art!
