Description

Brian De Palma invites you to witness a seduction...a mystery... a murder. It's Body Double a spine-tingling look at voyeurism and sexuality from the modern master of suspense. Jake Scully (Craig Wasson), an unemployed actor, is asked to house-sit at a luxurious hillside apartment. As a bonus, the home offers Jake a telescopic peek into the bedroom of Gloria Revelle (Deborah Shelton), who performs an arousing striptease. When Jake discovers another man is also spying on Gloria, he begins an obsessive surveillance of her. Soon a grisly murder leads him into the world of X-rated films where he meets sexy porn queen Holly Body (Melanie Griffith), who is a key to the crime. De Palma has created a gripping adult thriller of eroticism and horror!

I’ve been catching up on suspense/thriller movies lately and hadn’t seen this in decades, it’s also not out on Blu-ray yet so I bought it here on iTunes. Well, I used to have this on VHS recorded off Cinemax or some other cable channels probably 30? years ago… wow. I recalled having the hots for Deborah Shelton back then and she’s still hot, plus you get to see a young Melanie Griffith too in this fairly decent murder mystery thriller. The plot is kind of weak and I remember I figured it out almost instantly when I first saw it all those years ago, but it’s still a good watch. Some of the sexier scenes, well… nudity is gratuitous and cheap but what the hell.

After this, De Palma should've been sentenced to ten years to a spaghetti factory. If you think sloppy-soppy imitation of Hitchcock, with a comic book plot and high school level performances (no two in a matching vein) are witty tongue in cheek, and circling-camera shots are keen, you'll like this. If you thought the Blair Witch Project was scary, you may be glued to your seat. But if you're looking for something like Scarface or Carlito's Way, save yourself a couple of hours of cringing. This was made by the other Brian De Palma.

It was a surprisingly suspenseful movie throughout but the ending was a letdown. When a director doesn't know how to finish, you get this kind of ending.

I think this movie is good for what it is. I saw it when it first came out in the 80's and it wasn't that bad. My advice is to rent it and judge for yourself. It has it's good moments.

This is a really bad movie. I watched it because it promised to be a great suspense flick. I wish I hadn't wasted the time or the brain cells.
