The most disappointing thing about this film is the direction. The same director as Silence of the Lambs totally misses the mark with this one. The ending is nonsensical. Don't waste your time or money.

Praise be to Denzil Washington. His soft voice and smooth moves mask his creepiness. He is one of the best thriller artists ever. This movie and his role in this movie fit his style. I enjoyed this movie very much.
  • Yet Another Hall of Shame Remake

The original Machurian Candidate may be just too wacky and preposterous to be called a great movie, but it is undeniably a classic one, totally unique and unforgettable. This remake is just another political thriller, forgotten by the time it's over. What is this bizarre self-defeating impulse Hollywood has to do inferior remakes of the classics? What's next? Casablanca with Keanu Reeves? 2001 with Zac Efron? Gone With the Wind, the Wizard of Oz? Please, Hollywood! If you must do remakes, remake movies that you might actually improve. Waterworld. Ishtar.

Everyone is great in this movie. Meryl Streep, who plays a politician who will stop at nothing to make her son a president, is absolutely diabolical. Denzel Washington gets out of his comfort zone of playing strong and defiant characters, and is actually a little vulnerable in this movie. Great acting all around, even by supporting actors Liev Schrieber and Kimberly Elise.

This was an excellent movie. Great acting, great script, great production. The opening montage is one of the best in recent memory. The only political bias is one against dirty politics altogether, which is rare and refreshing. Highly recommended.
  • A Lame Remake Attempt

Go view the original version where Communists disguised as Conservatives attempt to take over the country under the employ of the Red Chinese. Changing it to "evil Capitalists" was laughable. Despite some good acting, I'd pass on this flick. It failed at the box office for a reason. All in all....a very lame movie.

I thought this movie was really well done. But I just preferred the original "Machurian Candidate".
