Description

From legendary director John Woo and the producer of John Wick comes this gritty revenge tale of a tormented father (Joel Kinnaman) who witnesses his young son die when caught in a gang's crossfire on Christmas Eve. While recovering from a wound that costs him his voice, he makes vengeance his life's mission and embarks on a punishing training regimen in order to avenge his son's death. Full of Woo's signature style, Silent Night redefines the action genre with visceral, thrill-a-minute storytelling.

then you should enjoy this movie as much as I did. Without question we live in a world where the ID 10 T’s take up way too much oxygen with their mouths open and sounds coming out. Joel and Catalina just nailed it - as did all the other actors but they truly work with their face and actions. Enjoy!!!

I looked forward to watching this movie, because I thought it was going to be more along the lines of John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Violent Night, and such… However I found the movie to be more about Woos want to tell a story with no spoken words to the point it felt like they were going out of their way to try achieve that goal. There feels like an imbalance of story & action and unfortunately the story is full of tropes used better in many movies that came before it so anything the action achieves cannot carry the weight of a whole movie. In the end it may leave you just feeling bad because it’s a man slowly killing himself out of grief more than a man out for vengeance.
  • a movie for no-one...

I never missed hearing a spoken word of dialogue in this flick. That said, there were WAY too many idyllic flashbacks with the main characters dead son… I assume to make our vengeful character sympathetic? Enough already! Numerous flashbacks imposed on the revenge (that’s why I was there) and by the way, John Wick would never, ever vomit after killing a bad guy. Nice editing, good camera angles but overall, a movie for no-one.

Honestly it’s better than I was hearing. I’m a bit of a sucker for alternative storytelling, so I really enjoyed the “no dialogue” gimmick.

Let me start off by saying this is my kind of movie, and I’m a big fan of these actors. I’ve been looking forward to seeing this once it came out. I really wanted to like this movie. That said, the pacing of the movie was very very slow and dragged out. I felt punished with too many flashbacks. I didn’t like the story, and too many scenes were so unrealistic that it removed me from the drama entirely. This movie just made me want to go watch John Wick again (which is an amazing movie). The ONE thing that I liked about this movie the most was it was refreshingly not woke, which has ruined so many movies and companies (Disney) today, for that I give it another star.
