Description

THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE is an intimate look at the extraordinary rise, fall and redemption of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker (Jessica Chastain). In the 1970s and ’80s, Tammy Faye and her husband, Jim Bakker (Andrew Garfield), rose from humble beginnings to create the world’s largest religious broadcasting network and theme park. At first, they were revered for their messages of love, acceptance and prosperity. All the while, Tammy Faye was legendary for her indelible eyelashes, idiosyncratic singing, and eagerness to embrace people from all walks of life. However, it wasn’t long before financial improprieties, scheming rivals, and scandal toppled their carefully constructed empire. Directed by Michael Showalter and written by Abe Sylvia, THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE also features Cherry Jones and Vincent D’Onofrio.

  • Why make a movie about such trash?

Her and her husband both were crooks. I don’t even consider them to have been Christians. Wolves in sheeps clothing, BOTH of them.

I love biopics and Jessica Chastain is just such a brilliant actress. I love all her work and of course, she succeeds in this too. Great movie about a woman who just wanted to love people like Jesus tells us to

Jessica did an awesome job of portraying Tammy it’s unbelievable how great she was. I vaguely remember all the PTL stuff as I’m not a charismatic Christian. I’m just a Christian who’s faith is solely in God, not people, places or persons. I do think this movie deserves an award for the outstanding work. I was enthralled watching it from start to finish. Just good film making 👍

In ‘87, I used to get off from work in the morning as a nurse, go home, fix me a bowl of oatmeal & turn on my little B&W t.v. & watch Tammy Faye Baker come floating down the isles, singing her little ol’ heart out. Her eyes camouflaged by caked on layers of mascara, eyeshadow & eyeliner. She’s start crying, the mascara’d start running & I’d laugh & laugh & laugh! PTL, ie., Praise the Lord! Or was it, Pick-up the Loot? Errr…or perhaps it stood for Pay The Lady (with the whole sex scandal & all)? She had to be on something — was it Valium? How those two could have came out of the Great White North of International Falls, Minnesota always boggled my mind. Sure, Jim was a crook. But, the people gave willingly. I hope you’re singing the praises of the Lord up in heaven, Miss Tammy.

Its a super downer of a movie, my goodness. It makes my life seem much easier comparatively. Jessica is incredible. I hope Jessica wins but will have serious competiition with Jennifer Hudson.
