The story is phenomenal and the visuals are just amazing. Glad to see the British flag all over the screen in association with punk rebellion.

This is a ludicrous comedy, prodding fun at Mormon “celestial plans” and “spirit children”, set in London in 1977, all mixed up in a hilariously caricaturized punk scene. It’s brilliant. Various alien groups live in an art house, and their worlds collide with the punk scene. These aliens do probe, so fair warning. It’s absurdist humor, executed with aplomb, great acting, and somehow mixed by Skywalker Sound. I saw the trailer for this at an art house theater, and after the film I’d come to see let out, I got a ticket for this. The reviews on IMDB were cascadingly very high and very low, with 10/10’s sandwiched between 1/10’s. This seems to be one people will love or hate. I feel like the trailer is a good indicator for the film, so if you’d buy a ticket right after seeing the trailer, then it might be for—but clearly not for many. It’s perhaps the only “coming of age story” that didn’t want to make me puke, although I’m sure some would require barf bags. Standout performances by both Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning. The boys in the film are up to task as well. It must have been fun to make. I was awkwardly laughing out loud as my fellow patrons were silenced in disbelief. Much thanks to everyone involved for making this. It’s a gem, and the only film I’ve heard referred to as an “instant cult classic” that truly was.

If you love JCM movies, weirdness, and punk you’ll love this. A beautifully shot, hilarious movie that is fun from start to end.
