Gay Lawrence (Academy Award George Sanders--All About Eve) has been hired by Lindsey Marriot (Hans Conried) to find a missing necklace for Marriot's girlfriend. But when Marriot turns up dead, the investigation leads Lawrence to ex-con Moose Malloy (Ward Bond)--and to Malloy's quest for his missing ladylove, Jessie Florian (Academy Award winner Anne Revere).
