Black people hate it because it rightly shows them indulging in unnecessary violence. Some White people hate it because it shows some police officers as racist psychopaths. But if you are open minded about these then this is a terrific movie.
A lot of people find this inaccurate

so i decided to look up and read about the real story... and this movie is pretty accurate to the story... issue is that the made up the storyline of the cops being blatenly racist.. and how slimely the defense lawyer came off.. How the cops were portrayed, was merely an opinion that was based on the info related to what witnesses claim happened within the motel... this movie is about as accurate and has about as much of an agenda as zero dark thirty which was directed by the same person.. and this movie is looking to profit off the times as much as zero dark thirty... if you just watch the movie for what it is, an accurate portrayal of a situation not necessarily the characters, and just leave you political opinions behind you, you will probably enjoy the movie to an extent
Nope, back to film school they go

I enjoyed the film and unfortunate how real the divide was and still is today. Sad when every negative review complains how inaccurate the film is without providing any FACTS to counter. Let's just call everything we don't like or agree with "fake" just like the president. Sure there is a little Hollywood added, but from the mouth of Melvin Dismukes himself, the film "is 99.5% accurate". Can't just dismiss this as "leftist propaganda" just because it doesn't suit your own far right views.
Not Accurate - Racist Propaganda - Agenda Driven

This is a story that deserves to be told, but better than this. This is such a sick cartoon version of the events that unfolded, I had to turn it off twice. I adore Bigelow's work, and I really wanted to see this film. But it was hard for me to get all the way through because they took the easy way out at every creative turn, and made the film into something that is darn near a parody of the true events. Very disappointing.
