THE CHAIR, created by Chris Moore, is a STARZ original filmmaking experiment. The Chair gives you, what feels like, an honest behind the scenes look at what goes into making a low budget indie movie.

I cannot believe that so much money was raised for these newbies to make 2 bad movies. I was appalled at Shane’s film—the content of it—but being an adult, I guess I’m not in his demographic. Why eating poop and getting puked on is funny, I just can’t understand. The female director, Martenucci, was wincingly crippled by insecurity that I’m sure drove her original DP away, flaws compounded by her strange drive to rewrite the script that she judged formulaic. Disappointed in the excuses to forego diversity. No ethnic minorities in Pittsburgh, said the casting agent, but Martenucci brought in her buddies from NYC—guess there are no minorities there either. Oh, she did point out that she hired a woman from the Cuban race! LOL! But there is something to learn about how to develop a story—and how not to. I enjoyed hearing the wisdom of the producers who made their points quite well and persistently although the newbies showed their astonishing ignorance in ignoring them. Advice to future contestants—Chris Moore & other producers know what they are talking about. Listen tot them.

Watching the first season of the chair was supper engaging! Being into how productions work, this was like being a fly on the wall not just 1, but 2 productions! An invaluable learning tool for young indie filmmakers!! The show looks great! Makes me even want to travel to Pittsburgh in the dead of winter!! Hope for a season 2!!
