Description

    I'm surprised by all the 5-star reviews. Kelsey Grammar is a great villain, and the camera work is excellent. But the story -- or should I say "multitude of tiny tales" -- is almost laughably unreal. Ward bosses get killed in the middle of the night, and no one seems to miss them. Trusted associates turn on the Boss, for reasons that we know nothing about until the inevitable dramatic confession in a face-to-face with the man they've screwed (complete with lots of dramatic close-ups). A political candidate does a no-show for a major press conference the night before the election, but sweeps into power anyway -- again without explanation. After a few dozen of these baseless twists and turns, the viewer stops caring -- about the characters, the plot, and the show. And that's a shame, because it's a good concept and a strong cast, all done in by writing that seems to be a game of Can You Top This: Sex and Evil Division.
