  • Hard to take

Just watched half of S3E1 - the writing is painfully hard to take. It is in thrall to other over stylized writers who are more competent. CGI calls attention to itself, and attention is called to it. And within 10 minutes we had a lengthy and painfully obvious in story advertisement for the Prius.

Warehouse 13 was created by some of the people closest to Joss Whedon, creator of some remarkable and game-changing sci-fi dramas over the past 15 years -- Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse -- and Jane Espenson's guiding hand thoroughly reflects her (and her production team's) strong values of storytelling. Warehouse 13 effortlessly balances somewhat goofball and kitchy plots with dark, dramatic, and always believable character moments. What makes this show so remarkable is the flawless combination of writing, directing, and acting. Every character since day one has been given ample room to breathe; relationships are intense and lovely, jokes are always light and never demeaning to the seriousness of these people's jobs -- to protect and collect the most dangerous and wondrous artifacts throughout the world. The center of this show is the lovely, sometimes silly, and always deeply moving relationship between Pete and Myka. The family dynamic of the starring cast, the ever-expanding supporting cast, and rogues gallery of well-rounded villains over the run of the first two seasons truly engaged me in a way that television had not in quite some time. Season 3, however, is a different animal altogether. The arrival of new characters, the return of old characters (and villains), and a tighter, more over-arching season-long story, elevated this show from great to exceptional. Season 3 of Warehouse 13 took the characters we love and put them in danger in ways the show never had before. It was during the darker, violent, and sometimes devastating run of season 3 that these characters (and the actors who portray them) truly came into their own. There are standout characters and performances, but I'm happy to say that along the way, everyone involved on-screen shines. If seasons 1 and 2 are entertaining fluff with a splash of drama and a lot of heart, season 3 is complex, character-driven storytelling at its peak, unrivaled by most of the drivel found on the "big networks." Warehouse 13 is one of those rare moments in sci-fi television where creativity, originality, heart, chemistry, and integrity of storytelling have come together with a classy, talented group of people (on and off screen) in a recipe for greatness.

But after going through all five pages, I have to say , I love this show. By the time I got the season, they were all straightened out with the fortieth floor, but I saw it first time through anyway. As to the 'excessive' violence etc I disagree. It has a 14 rating for a reason. As to the Gay Agent, Frankly I don't agree with the lifestyle, but there are Gay Agents IRL, so I don't have a problem. They were not over the top with it. As to the 'need to reel them in' THe over the top is what makes the show for me. I love the zany sort of insanity that infects the warehouse and its agents. At first Myka and Pete are a bit more stuffed shirt, but remember, they are working at a place that smells like cookies when it is happy. They are playful because there is so much tension and drama that if they played it as it was they would go insane. Or be just like the regents. Rock on, love it, want more of it. WH13 for ever.

Season 3 the only concern I have is how is SYFY going to top such an amazing season? Fortunatly, I have watched this show since the beginning so I have a bunch of ideas for new artifacts! I would really like to see Jane Austen or Charlotte Bronte artifacts, but my top one is something of John Hughes' that makes you think you're a teenager. That would be so cool!

Episode 8 is missing. Came down as an error and then just disappeared. This seems to happen way too much on iTunes.
