Description

Trouble returns to Monterey, CA. As relationships unravel, loyalties erode, and the potential for emotional and bodily injury still looms large, HBO's smash-hit series is back for a second season. On the surface, everything seems the same in the seaside town. But the night of the school fundraiser changed all that, leaving the community reeling, and the "Monterey Five"--Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Jane (Shailene Woodley), Renata (Laura Dern) and Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz)—bonding together to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives. Meanwhile, Perry's grieving mother, Mary Louise Wright (Meryl Streep), comes to town in search of answers in her son's death.

  • Boring compared to season 1

The second season had potential;but, it just failed to get a good plot going. The new characters are weak too - save yourself time and money...do not watch this season. The ending was such a let down. Stop with season 1. I hope the writers make a huge change or just stop where they are.

Didn't you hate (love) Streep! A story that was good made great by Nichole Kidman, Meryl Streep and more. You know after 20 years of watching Nichole Kidman it's hard to believe she's getting better and better!
  • Release the Andrea Arnold Cut

I must say that the subject matter, along with the fact that it serves as a vehicle for so many talented people, is quite significant. But, recently Indiewire's Chris O'Falt raised an issue around how the season's director Andrea Arnold was treated, a story since picked up by the LA Times, Elle, and othes. According to the Chris O'Falt article from July 12, 2019 it seems Arnold was stripped of editorial control, and Vallee reshot some sceenes and cut the film. Needless to say I don't like the fact that Andrea Arnold was treated this way. I find this unacceptable, and symptomatic to what is being done to women on a daily basis in many professional fields and places of employment. This has to end. On another note, I was also dissatisfied with Meryl Streep's performance. With all due respect, her work is so well-rehearsed and mechanical, you can see it laid out before you like an exercise routine. She knows which facial muscles to move to give a certain impression, and she moves them. I am not trying to dismiss her entire body of work. But here, it was painfully obvious it's the Actress who showed up, asserting her craft - and her craft only - through her role. She may have devised her own paint-by-the-numbers scheme, but I cannot help seeing her work here as filling in the spaces between the lines.
