Description

From 1968 to 1975, gangs ruled New York City. Beyond the idealistic hopes of the civil rights movement lay a unfocused rage. Neither law enforcement nor social agency could end the escalating bloodshed. Peace came only through the most unlikely and courageous of events that would change the world for generations to come by giving birth to hip-hop culture. Rubble Kings chronicles life during this era of gang rule, tells the story of how a few extraordinary, forgotten people did the impossible, and how their actions impacted New York City and the world over.

  • KEEPING THE CULTURE ALIVE

As a Zulu leader & artist who paints many flags & colors for clubs & allies worldwide I get to know many of the members first hand & understand the love the pride & rich history behind each jacket or cut. Unfortunately this isn't common knowledge & with the popularity of outlaw biker TV shows & culture these days it's important that our history not just "his story" gets told. RUBBLE KINGS does just that! In the spirit of historic films like the Warriors it shows the true Outlaw culture of the South Bronx & the surrounding New York Burroughs. Unlike the films of the past RUBBLE KINGS shows how this New York Outlaw culture not only spread worldwide but started the Worldwide Global cultural phenomenon we know as Hip Hop. With commentary from original gang members to Hip Hop pioneers & even corrupt NYC politicians RUBBLE KINGS gives you the truth uncensored & does a perfect job of keeping the culture alive.

«Rubble Kings» is an essential entry in the canon of hip hop, if not popular culture overall. The film shows in vivid detail the matrix out of which hip hop music emerged to forever change culture across the globe. The reverberations from the settling ruins of the South Bronx are still felt to this day. Dry history this is not thanks to the vivid first-hand recollections of the key figures at the center of this historical moment. Exhaustive interviews, dazzling graphics, and an original score by Little Shalimar make «Rubble Kings» essential viewing for OGs and neophytes alike.
  • The Gang Member Who Had The Opportunity to Evolve

The film provides the missing narrative to what happened to Blacks and Latinos who lived in urban poverty between the Civil Rights and Reagan Eras. #RubbleKings is a must watch for any Black or Latino person who is apart of a street organization. For instance, the Ghetto Brothers demonstrates how the ideas and political education of the previous generation, survived with some street organizations. Dr. Gerald Horne addresses the relationship between the street organizations and the Black Panther Party in his book on the Watts Riots. As a doctoral student who grew up as an Gangster Disciple in the Midwest, I appreciate this film. I want for every individual who comes from the hood to evolve out of that mentality that is counterproductive to our progress, and become a instruments for our liberation.

A birds eye view into gritty New York, the Bronx looks almost post apocalyptic. It's a true story told by the fortunate people to survive it, and I loved every minute!

The movie was great with real footage and stories by the angs who lived it. The way the Bronx was ignored is similar to how South and West Chicago is ignored and battle today but for vastly different issues. Many lessons to learn that could help youth today. Of course it shows the origins of the Black/Puerto Rican unification on its way to deejaying, emceeing, and break dancing.

With so many of today's rappers being mainstream corporate puppets and/or brain dead ignoramuses, it is easy to forget that hip hop culture was started by radical revolutionaries. Warring tribes of kids who had the revelation that by coming together in peace they could uplift, not only their own communities, but the whole planet! Never has this story been told so well as by RubbleKings. This film is a work of art and activism that has the power to reconnect lost generations with the original purpose of the modern world's most pervasive and persistent culture.

I've been waiting long time for this to come out and I wasn't disappointed! Takes me back to the "old" New York that had a character that you couldn't find anywhere else on Earth, before it became the Disney World it is now. I can't compliment this film enough. A story about the origin of hip hop culture told from a very unique perspective. Check it out!!!!!
