Description

After their teenage son is killed in a car crash, Paul and Anne move to the New England countryside to try to start a new life. But the grieving couple unknowingly becomes the prey of a family of vengeful spirits that reside in their new home, and before long they discover that the seemingly peaceful town is hiding a terrifyingly dark secret. Now they must find a way to overcome their sorrow and fight back against both the living and dead as the malicious ghosts threaten to pull their souls – and the soul of their lost son – into hell with them. From the producers of The House Of The Devil and Cheap Thrills, WE ARE STILL HERE is a tense, frightening, and thoroughly haunting ghost story.

Bad acting, bad story, bad dialogue, bad effects, etc. One of the worst movies I’ve seen!

Everything in this movie rises and falls with the lead performances. In this regard, the men in the cast far outshine the women. Barbara Crampton, famous for her roles in daytime tv, gives a really bad performance (at least, in my opinion). I don't care if it echoes older films. If that's true, then older films had bad acting, and I'm not sure why we would want to celebrate that. I also think Lisa Marie's performance is a bit hokey. I understand that's her character, but her emotions seem so hollow and there's not enough backstory to go on. Larry Fessenden gives an awesome performance as the scenery chewer in the cast. His character is absolutely ridiculous, and he just owns it. But the real star here is Andrew Sensenig, who gives the best performance of the film. He's the only one who fits the following criteria: a) his character motivations and actions and emotions fit the response given and the scenarios; b) his acting is not hammy either by design or accident. I kept expecting him to be a let down, but he never was! Surprised he hasn't gotten more opportunity. Another thing that knocks this film down a peg: the discussion between the evil neighbor and the bartender is so unnecessary and full of unimaginative exposition that I found myself quite disappointed with the script as a whole. It's really, really clunky and it takes away from the mystery. Surely there was another way to reveal exposition without the antagonist giving a speech about what's going on. Absolutely dreadful writing. The redeeming aspect of the film, however, is its pace, which is just breakneck. In this case, that's a good thing, mostly because there's not too much story. The story that exists isn't really fleshed out. It's almost like the writer/director had more of a premise than an actual script. I realize that that could be construed as a negative, but I think it's actually a positive in this case. By keeping it lean, the pace moves very fast, and there's not really a good point at which you feel you can pause it. Indie horror movies should take note of that. A second positive is the special effects. I assume this was a very low budget film, as it seems like they filmed it on location, kept it to, really, two locations, and their two most prominent actors are Barbara Crampton and Larry Fessenden. The impressive thing is a) the effects are largely practical, and b) look absolutely awesome. I'm reviewing it after my second watching of it. I watched it a second time because I couldn't remember it. In two years, if I recognize the name, I will probably have forgotten it again. It's not the type of movie that will stand out in my mind. But if you like solid, indie horror movies, then you might as well try this one out.

This movie has a decent story that’s pretty basic. It lends a good amount of throwback horror gore but nothing too gross. It has some comedy in it too which I actually really liked. Give this one a watch!

This right here is a gem. Bloody, gory, campy, funny...this is the kind of horror movie you watch when you don't want something too serious. This is a great throwback to horror films of the 70's and 80's. There's no fantastic story, no real twists and turns, cheesy dialogue and acting for the most part...but cool monsters, a self awareness that is really refreshing, and an ending that really brings the heat. I would highly recommend this one. Just know it's not meant to be taken seriously at all!

It’s a nice looking/feeling film. Good use of the whole 70’s/80’s motif. Decent start, okay middle, you think it’s going to get interesting and then the whole thing goes waaay off track. The last 20 minutes is a joke. Doesn’t match the vibe of the rest of the film. The “scary things” are taken too far out of the shadows and are no longer scary at all. You get a bunch of totally cheesy spatter-gore right at the end. Kills the creepy factor of the whole film. Not sure where all the great reviews come from. Guess it’s slim pickens for good horror...

THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE WORST, DUMBEST HORROR MOVIES EVER. AND I HAVE WATCHED A LOT OF THEM. I CAN USUALLY FIND SOMETHING GOOD ABOUT ANY HORROR MOVIE, INCLUDING THE LOW-BUDGET FLICKS. HOWEVER, THIS ONE HAD ABSOLUTELY NO REDEEMING QUALITIES. I AM SO SORRY THAT I CANNOT GET BACK THE TIME THAT I SPENT WATCHING IT!
  • Slow start, but good

Ended up being an awesome movie. The only thing is that it takes a while to get to the scary parts. The first half of the movie is totally forgettable.
