Description

Everyone thinks of Santa Claus as a magical figure without flaws, but the men who keep his legend alive, real-bearded professional Santas, are nothing like the jolly ol' Saint Nick we've all grown up knowing. In reality, the mall Santa in your cherished children's photo has problems just like the rest of us. Even the jolliest of men fall victim to divorce, job loss, insecurity and even the occasional hangover. 'I Am Santa Claus' is a documentary that follows the lives of five real-bearded professional Santa Clauses as they anticipate and prepare the coming holiday season while showing them for who they actually are; flawed, flesh and blood men who feel an overbearing responsibility to protect the integrity of the spotless, untarnished reputation of the "Red Suit."

I gave this 3 stars for the concept, and the parts that were family friendly were entertaining. However, there was a good chunk of the film that I could have lived without. Let's just say it delved too far into personal lives, and I had to skip part of the film.

I really enjoyed this doc and Mick Foley and his family are lovable, as are many of the Santas. However, this unrated movie should be rated a soft R for occasional swearing and much mature material including a touching gay relationship but also a more twisted "polar bear" convention, a Santa who frequents sex clubs and is a "swinger" and a drunken Santa. I am no prude, but I would hate to rent this film to watch with little kids and then have to explain a whole bunch of crazy stuff. And, by the way, little children who still believe in Santa shouldn't be exposed to multiple "Santas", anyway!

This is one of those smaller, independent documentaries that deserves more love. It isn't a perfect film (not by any means), but it's extremely entertaining and full of heart. Give this one a watch. Really interesting stuff.

Had the chance to see an early advanced screening and really liked the film. The film contains many amusing scenes. Makes you get into the Christmas spirit. Def recommend watching it for the Christmas season.

This doc really put me in the Chirstmas mood. I saw it at a screening here in NYC and I was amazed at how good it was! It made me and my wife laugh and cry. Very well made.

Saw the film last night at the NY Premiere. While the film had it's fair share of laughs, it was a lot more heatfelt than I imagined it would be. It provides a rare gilmpse into the people that portray Santa and their reason for doing it. It's not for money nor for fame - but for the joy that it brings to the children's eyes when they see the big man for the first time.

You will know the pain of pouring your soul into a costume year after year in exchange for a smile from a child. And find yourself smiling (and crying) too. Great screening....I bet the final product will be even better.
