Description

Many people believe the scariest urban legends are just modern day folklore; campfire tales of axe-wielding boogeymen, haunted mental institutions and witches in the woods – the storylines of our favorite horror movies, but often beneath the surface of these harrowing myths lies a horrific truth that’s scarier than any fiction. Through a chilling blend of investigative journalism, and what folklorists call Legendtripping, filmmakers Joshua Zeman and Rachel Mills embark on a dark journey as they investigate four of our most terrifying urban legends and the real-life crimes that may have inspired them. Peeling back the layers of storytelling, from interviews with shocked detectives to traumatized victims, our filmmakers discover a truth more horrifying than they had ever imagined. Unraveling the mystery behind a legacy that refuses to die, this is an attempt to understand not just what we all fear, but more importantly… why we continue to believe. From the director of CROPSEY.

Very light-weight „documentation“. Especially the two „creators“ of the doc getting featured in almost every shot of the doc are annoying…

I feel like there could've been more stories and more hard evidence. It is very eye-opening, though, regarding it's philosophy on urban legends.

Biggest waste of money i have yet to spend on I tunes. Horrible narrators, bad interviews, just plain bad. Not sure what others liked about it. Please don't waste your time or money!

Wow, this was just… wow… bad. It’s terribly scripted, it’s terribly dictated to play up the drama. The on-scene footage is mostly useless — just a bunch hiking through the woods in the dark? Why in the dark? What does that even show us? The summary lines to each urban legend are circular, along the lines of “Even though we still don’t know who the killer was and we know that the killer was no stranger, which proves that the victim knew her killer.” And why is the entire film subtitled. Everybody is speaking English, but for some reason they still put subtitles for every line spoken in the film.
  • I like the idea but was not good.

Total waste of time! I liked the idea of the urban legends and reality and the first couple of case were fine. But the clown one and others were horrible and not scary in the slightess. If you had focus on more hard-core legends and the associated reality instead of this fluff, it could have been good.

Worst movie I have ever seen (and I watched Show Girls). They Google the urban legends and murders that have something remotely in common then "investigate". The worst is Candyman. Not even remotely close. I bought this to watch on a flight so I wouldn't be bored. Wrong. The scariest part of this is, after reading the reviews, someone said this tool was their favorite documentarian. Yikes.

Killer Legends was crafted with great skill - I thought the editing was on point and I really enjoyed the use of archival material. Some of the producing was a little over the top (bombarding people who currently live at old crime scenes), but there were only a few minor moments that felt forced. Overall, as a fan of horror, I really enjoyed it and it was obvious the team behind the film did a thorough job.

Haven’t seen CROPSEY and won’t if it’s anything like this film. Ultimately turned it off as it simply could not hold my attention. Poor writing and contrived storytelling make it a bust.

Very entertaining and well researched film containing four sequences explaining different urban legends. The filmmaking duo do a great job of keeping things interesting. The Texarkana Moonlight Murders, Candyman and Babysitter in peril sequences are very well done and extremely chilling. The last story about Clowns drags and ends the film on a very quiet note. Regardless, it’s still a great movie. Definitely recommended.
