Description

THE PAST IS A GROTESQUE ANIMAL is a personal, accessible look at an artist - Kevin Barnes, frontman of the endlessly versatile indie pop band of Montreal – whose pursuit to make transcendent music at all costs drives him to value art over human relationships. As he struggles with all of those around him, family and bandmates alike, he’s forced to reconsider the future of the band, begging the question – is this really worth it?

I've never heard of Of Montreal before, but some friends of mine told me that I should check them out. This was a great introductory film. I definitely can't stop thinking about the music! It was really interesting to get to know Kevin Barnes and Of Montreal before picking up an alblum of theirs. I would recommend this film even if you have never heard of them (like me). In the film, it is said that you have either never heard of Of Montreal or it is absolutely your favorite band. After seeing the film and after playing "The Past is a Grotesque Animal" on repeat, I think this is definitely true. Watch this film! It's a journey but a great and beautiful one.

Kevin Barnes is the most brilliant *sshole you'll get to see on film. I now know how to love and hate at the same time.
