Description

Kelly Reichardt’s suspense-thriller Night Moves is the story of three radical environmentalists coming together to execute the most intense protest of their lives: the explosion of a hydroelectric dam. Harmon (Peter Sarsgaard, The Killing) is a former Marine, radicalized by tours of duty overseas. His life in the military is behind him, but at heart he remains excited by the prospect of mayhem and destruction. Dena (Dakota Fanning, The Twilight Saga) is a high-society dropout who’s moved west and cut ties with her family, edging ever deeper into radical politics. And Josh (Jesse Eisenberg, Social Network), their leader, is a self-made militant, devoted to the protection of the earth by any means necessary. As the three plan, carry out and then witness the fallout of their attention-grabbing act of sabotage, they find their own personal limits tested on a journey of doubt, paranoia and unintended consequences.

I would rather clean toilets for 2 hours than watch this movie.
  • Slow, Boring, and Uninteresting

I can only infer - by the slow pace, lack of dialogue, and the close-ups of actors' faces trying to portray worried looks - that the Director wanted to achieve tension. It didn't work. I don't know who these characters are. Are their actions consistent with motivations? I don't know. The only way to achieve tension is having the Director let you into these characters' heads - what drives them, what are they afraid of, and what are they willing to do. A movie that achieves of all this is "Resolution." It received much praise at the Tribeca Film Festival a couple years back. It is not a perfect film, but it works. You can rent it on iTunes.

I wish someone had told me this: this “movie”, which is really just people moving about so slowly it is sleep-inducing (literally) is not worth downloading.

was fully prepared to give this film the benefit of the doubt until the ending.. oh wow - what a terrible terrible cop-out ..the ending instantly leaves you feeling that you have just been shafted as a reward for staying with it for the other 111 minutes. caveat emptor :-(
  • Lame Conclusion

Okay, I gave it two stars ONLY because at some point, prior to the end, I must have thought that the plot and characters were interesting, or I would have quit watching. However, having sat through to the bizarre, rip off conclusion, I have to agree with other reviews, the movie is not nearly as good as the trailer.

The methodical pace of Night Moves draws you in hook line and sinker. An amazing study of how normal people can slowly slip off the deep end. It's hauntingly real!

An environmental thriller that is smart and realistic. Home grown terrorism for any cause is terrorism. This movie makes us look at ourselves in the mirror.
  • If there was a possibility to rate it zero ... I would !
