Description

Dr. Will Caster is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed-to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and best friend Max Waters (Paul Bettany), both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can... but if they should. Their worst fears are realized as Will's thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him.

  • One of Thee coolest Johnny Depp movies you’ll see

I’m a fan of Johnny Depp’s movies and have to say this is by far one of thee coolest movies he’s been in and it’s not your typical kind of Depp movie if you know what I mean lol and I hope he acts in more modern day movies like this creative wise. The movie definitely focuses on the topic of A.I (Artificial Intelligence) and it does beg the question could A.I become even more advanced like this? The movie has a great cast, very good acting, cool scenery, suspense and awesome special effects and cool action.
  • It's fiction people--get over it...

Let me start by saying I've always felt most (not al) movie critics are people who possess no other employable skills. And even more so, when it comes to anything to do with science, have no clue. I'm a career software developer and I'm now a data scientist. Was this movie grounded in current AI reality? Well no--that's why it's called science FICTION. Was the premise thought provoking? You're d*mn right it was. If you stop trying so hard to make the movie scientifically plausible, and get into the various underlying stories and broader philosophical questions, it's a really good movie. And in the end, it's a love story (or stories). Watch it, draw your own conclusions, and don't listen to the opinions of others (inclding mine), because we're all different..

I didn’t watch any trailers or read critics or reviews before watching it, and I’m glad. I really enjoyed it bcs it’s different than all the “black mirror” and Ex Machina stories out there.
  • Scary and emotional

Many people maybe can't put themselves in the minds of these people or try to put themselves in this situation. I mean, is this idea really far fetched? Unfortunately and terrifyingly, not really. This is a definite possibility for the future and the film did a great job in capturing possibiliities as well as human emotion. Loved it.

Possibly the most dismal effort in sci-fi history, an idiotic premise dragged even further down by lame acting (Depp isn't the only offender but certainly the worst). Pass this snoozefest by, it's a rare occassion when Rotten Tomatoes are actuall on the button.

That's the clumsiest chemistry I've ever seen between a cast. Yikes. The movie is passable but nothing more.
  • Radiating Kathleen

Great concept - too bad for lackluster Johnny.

This was a truly amazing movie. I'm not in the habit of watching a movie twice, but I've watched this movie several times it was so great. It's really interesting to imagine the ways that AI and "mind uploading" in the future will revolutionize our lives.
