Description

A young woman leaves her small town to pursue her dream of singing. On her way to the city, she moves in with a quirky elderly man as his roommate. But following her to this new life, are memories of her tragic past, her crippling stage fright, and deceptive relationships. It is finally through the wisdom and friendship of the old man that she learns she needs to return home and confront her unsupportive father and somehow come to peace with that relationship, because if she doesn’t, she’ll never escape the cycle she’s created for herself.

Every now and then, I come across a film that completely surprises and restores my faith in the true spirit of independent cinema! Sarah McAnally's THE FAIR is such a film. A compelling story, wonderful, fully-developed characters and life lessons all rolled up in a beautifully shot and edited film! Brigid Brannagh is a revelation as Maggie and Neil Vipond is a true original as Mr. Rachel. A must see for anyone who is tired of the run of the mill Hollywood Dreck!

It is rare these days to find a film that tells a story with such simple innocence and natural evolution of relationships between its characters. It is this simplicity that makes this film so endearing as it delicately explores themes that can commonly effect the hopes and dreams of us all. Whilst the themes are deep there is enough humor along the way to balance things out. Hats off to director Sarah McAnally for creating this masterpiece !

Good golly, what a lovely film! It is well-written and beautifully shot, with great performances throughout. There are several strong characters, but "Rachel" is a gem! The story is inspiring, with a nice sense of humor.
