Description

Payton is a pathetic dork, a comic book geek whose high school career is one series of hopeless faux pas after another. Hopelessly in love with Carrie, Payton is given life lessons by Carrie, who hopes to socialize Payton just enough to get him off her back and into the arms of Samantha. And when Payton takes his act out in public...well, that's when his life shifts into gear from lonely misery to utter disaster!

The basic plot is fairly similar to many teen movies. A dork boy is in love with a hot girl and completely oblivious to a dork girl that is in love with him. The movie was slightly predictable. I tend to get embarrassed when I see embarrassing moments in movies. Not this time. Although I relate to the characters and feel for them, I still found those moments funny. I think it takes something special to do that. The main dork, Payton (Gaelan Connell), is obviously meant to be similar to Napoleon Dynamite, but trying to mimic someone rarely works out well. Samantha (Vanessa Marano), played her part brilliantly. Carrie (Riley Voelkel), seemed fairly superficial, just like a typical cheerleader. The Mike Ditka stuff was horrible. Everytime it came on, it made me roll my eyes. It was just a horrible section of the plot. It would be better if they found another way to relate Jim Belushi's character rather than an obsession with Mike Ditka. I really like Jim Belushi, but he was dragged down by the horrible Mike Ditka scenes. Luckily, there weren't too many Mike Ditka scenes. I liked that it would break into comic shots. Although I doubt this movie will ever be mimiced or made into a parody, I thought it was cute. If you're looking for a chuckle and something easy to watch, this is a good flick.

I've been around long enough that I've seen many of the movies that fall into the high-school underdog comedy genre...and now I have young sons, so the good news is that I get to watch the best ones all over again. Well, this movie is brand-new and it's one of the best ones...and might prove to be one of the classics. I watched it with my wife and one young son and we all were laughing and caught up in it..which means it reaches artistic tastes that range from "Dazed & Confused" to "Scooby-Doo". It is hilarious with toughness at the edges, sweet, but not cloying and deals with human issues for teenagers and adults..plus it is not afraid to suprise you!

This was fun ride from beginning to end! Just sit back, relax and have a good time watching this film. Big plus is Jennifer Tilly. I love her quirkiness on screen. This film is just an all around good time for any age group. I highly recommend it especially if you're in the mood for a "feel good" watch.

You look at the 30 something reviews at 4 1/2 stars so far and think you might be renting a newer version of Superbad?? Wrong!!! Admittedly, I could only watch about 30 minutes of it before turning it off, but be warned, this is one bad movie. It plays off every high school comedy you have ever seen and tries a few new twists with cartoon like animation at times, but when it is not outright bad, it falls flat. Do yourself a favor and, if you just have to see it, watch this one at the dollar movies.

....for the outrageous and obvious money grab Apple does on itms. Ten bucks to rent a movie. They aren't but they should be ashamed of themselves. It's criminal.

Apparently the two negative reviewers don't have a sense of humor. Great characters that'll bring you back to that awkward time of your life.
