Description

Ireland. Circa, 1780. With wealth and title destined to go to their elder brothers, the younger sons of rich Irish families risk spending their lives in poverty, or worse, in the church. To avoid this cruel fate, they have no choice but to resort to abducting rich young society ladies. The abductions are carried out under the strictest codes of gentlemanly conduct. Saddled up and wearing masks the young men steal their captives from under their father's noses. They have until dawn to persuade their would be brides into instant marriage, thus securing their financial futures. Byrne and Strang, two handsome and dashing members of the abduction club bite off a little more than they can chew when they target the feisty Kennedy sisters!

  • A long awaited movie...

I watched this a couple of years ago and was extremely disappointed to find that it wasn't available in the US. (Indeed, the only format I could find it in was Australian.) I'm delighted that it's finally here. Yes, it is a little cliche and predictable, but it's a feel-good period drama. Did you expect something different? I cannot wait to watch it again.

I loved this movie! It was a great weekend rental about a practice I have never heard about; romantic abduction of heiresses. I'd like to research it since the movie notes it is based on real events. It reminds me of the true to life practice of impoverished men with titles in England marrying wealthy women from America (Downton Abby) Matthew Rhys is great and so handsome as unusual!

The movie was very well made. I love the costumes. Actors fit the parts. It was predictable, but this type for movie is predictable. I enjoyed it.

I don't care what Rotten Tomatoes says I love this movie. It's funny, romantic, and takes place in period drama era. What more could anyone want? I have waited so long for this movie. I knew when I saw it on the pre-order list I had to buy it. Buy it or rent it it's a great flick. But don't be like Rotten Tomatoes and take it too seriously. Just enjoy.
