Hard years on the force have made police detective Jim Wilson a lonely and embittered man. Sent to catch the murderer of a schoolgirl, Jim learns the victim's father, Walter Brent, is set on revenge. They go to a desolate mountain ranch and find a blind girl, Mary. Suspecting her mentally retarded brother as the murderer, Jim offers to protect him. But Jim is unable to save him from the hate-filled Walter. Devastated, he returns to Mary hoping she can help him rebuild his life.
