Description

This critically acclaimed film from the director of REPRISE finds Anders on the verge of successfully completing treatment at a drug rehab in the countryside. As part of the program, he is allowed to go into Oslo for a job interview but instead uses the opportunity to revisit friends and old haunts. 34-year-old Anders is smart, handsome and from a good family, but deeply haunted by all the opportunities he’s wasted and all the people he’s let down. For the remainder of the day and long into the night, he will wrestle with the chance of love and the possibility of a new life.

  • Good movie, but nothing particularly new.

The filmmaking overall was quite good. The movie would have been great for the quality of production and intimacy of characters, but for the predictable and depressing reversion to the usual image of the drug addict who is unable to overcome in the end.
  • A realistic view of Life- addicted or not

This movie has the ability to hone in on the feelings and misgivings it takes to live life in the here and now. When Anders talks to his friend in the beginning it as I was hearing what many have tried to say and failed. Why are we here? Why is it everyone else seems to be sitting around enjoying themselves talking to friends. Life can be extremely lonely. Anders shows what it's like to lose Hope. In his view, why in the world would he want to keep going? Life is tough, but what Anders forgets is that Life never stays the same. It always changes.

Once or twice a year if I'm lucky I manage to find an art house foreign film as good as "Oslo, August 31st".
