Description

A box-office smash and ten-time Academy Award® nominee including Jessica Lange's win for best supporting actress, Tootsie stars Dustin Hoffman as a brash New York actor whose reputation for being "difficult" has stalled his career. When his girlfriend, Sandy (Teri Garr), fails an audition for a soap opera, Michael dresses up as "Dorothy Michaels," auditions and lands the part. He joins the cast of the long-running daytime drama "Southwest General," quickly becoming the best friend and confidante of his beautiful co-star, Julie (Lange). But it's a frustrating relationship because he soon finds himself falling in love. Unfortunately, also falling in love is Julie's father (Charles Durning)--but with "Dorothy." Michael Dorsey has finally become a star. Now if he could just tell the woman he loves.

Simply put this is a genuine classic and a timeless American comedy that tackled women’s empowerment and male enlightenment long before the current social justice movements. And more importantly it’s really really funny. The cast is perfect and the writing is something that should be and often is studied. Arguably the director’s best comedy in an already impressive career.

Really great and hilarious movie. A shame it didn't win Best Picture, but of course nothing is going to beat a film about Gandhi. I think Teri Garr should have won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress instead of Jessica Lange though.

A timeless classic that’s as comfortable as an old pair of your favorite slippers. Tootsie is that old friend you haven’t seen in years but pick up right where you ended as if no time has slipped by.
