Description

From the Oscar®-winning team behind MAN ON WIRE comes the fascinating story of Nim, the chimpanzee who became the focus of a landmark 1970s experiment to prove an ape could learn to communicate with language—if raised and nurtured like a human child. But as Nim's natural instincts take over and the humans around him fail to protect him, things do not go according to plan in this insightful and unflinching story of one animal's remarkable interaction with human society.

This poorly constructed documentary is a perfect example of man's inherent egocentric and myopic scope of the world we inhabit, and the creatures we share (dominate) it with. Herb Terrace is a true failure in respect to the principles of his scientific discipline, but to his own species.

Spoiler alert: This is officially the worst thing I have ever seen. Bad on virtually every level. This movie is a meandering, poorly constructed story that doesn't know what it wants to be. It ends up as a collection of the most dislikable people ever assembled. There is too much wrong with this movie to list everything. I think the high scores have to be from some sort of faked ratings overload. It is really the only explanation for this. To the filmmakers - please stop making documentaries. To the researches - shame on you for your poor research practices. Although you say that he couldn't communicate through sentences - Apes can communicate with actions. Every piece of real communication pointed to the fact that NIM didn't belong there. To that horrible woman who was thrown into the wall - Don't interact with wild animals if you do not know how to handle them. You were warned. And you certainly shouldn't be nursing a baby ape. I feel like poor Nim in this movie - forced to endure torture for no real purpose. One star for the nice movie poster.

Being Loved then betrayed, how many of us could forgive what other human have done? If we couldn't show other people the natural emotion as NIM did, we are worst than just an animal. However, would the civilization allow us to live freely? We are just an animal in our own cage, moving from one to another.

I have always felt that animals have far more levels of emotions than scientists would have you think. Its sad whenever we abuse anything we have been given dominion over. It is senseless that so many humans abuse animals on a daily basis. This story is just one of many over the years. However, nothing will change! You need to watch this before you share with your children expecially if you have that one kid that just loves animals and brings home the strays. I have a kid like this, she is nearly an adult and I wont encourage her to see this movie. While a good film, becareful when showing it to children expecially like I said..those who are ultra sensative.

A truely revolutionizing documentary which brings to life the connections we can share with other Life. Mind Blowing.

This is a remarkably well made film. Be aware that it is very traumatizing. My young teen children are animal lovers and sensitive and this would be far too traumatizing for them. This is not a warm and cuddly animal story. It shows the harsh reality of animal treatment. Screen it first and make your own decision.
