This is my favorite movie ever! It’s so good & never fails to make me cry!

Amazing movie! High quality writing and acting! Love love love this movie!

First hour of the movie was boring, but once the story developed further it got slightly more interesting. I love the relatable moments and the candid conversation between the characters, but overall not my cup of tea.

Please don't listen to the above critics ratings. This is a wonderful movie. I have seen it many times and it's still both sad and uplifting at the same time. Barbara Hershey and Bette Midler are fantastic in the film and a young Mayim Bialik is terrific as the younger version of Bette's character CC Bloom.

Great movie, that uses ALL the multiple talents of the Divine Miss M, Bette Midler! Awesome acting and Bette's voice, AMAZING ! There's not one single actress,singer, that can tell a story through her amazing singing! Belting out every tune effortlessly! But iTunes please release "The Rose" motion picture! Best first starring role and Oscar nod! Great movie based loosely on Janis Joplin! Here's hoping you'll do it! 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

This movie is one of my favorites to watch! Next to pretty woman, and fried green tomatoes. Got Beaches at Walmart for 5.00 instead of buying it here for 17.99 👌

It took Bette Midler being 40 and having a 20 year old daughter in (Down &Out in BH), putting on a fat suit in (Ruth People) - Bette got the part after Madonna turned it down-, fighting with Shelley Long on screen and off while pregnant in (Outrage. Fortune) and mugging it up with Lily Tomlin in (Big Bus) in order to build the clout to make a drama. I remember the sold out crowd in the theatre when we saw Beaches opening night. The crowd was quite diverse....different races, different ages, you name it. I believe people wanted to see Bette sing again. Also and more importantly, I can't quite recall a serious drama centering on a friendship of 2 women before Beaches. This film spoke to the masses. Beaches gets a bum wrap with some critics as a UberWeeper. The film ushered in the term Chick Flick. However, instead of simple emotional manipulation, the film truly shows a complicated friendship that lasts for a lifetime....ups and downs of careers and marriages keep these two friends close. Barbara Hershey was wonderful as Hillary. I wish though her character was a bit more developed. Trivia note- Anne Archer & Donna Mills were in the running for the part of Hillary. This film is dated with letters, fancy pens, pay phones and stationary. Yet the chemistry and relationship between these two leads is timeless. I honestly don't prefer flashback films and this is probably the films greatest flaw. To have CC get the news and to share flashbacks with the audience gave the film a sense of doom. This method also didn't work for Midler's For the Boys. To counteract that flaw Gary Marshall directs Beaches with a perfect blend of humor, dramatic moments, and showcases the talents of the two leads perfectly. I highly suggest you watch Bette promote this film on Oprah (on YouTube). Oprah LOVED Beaches and was convinced Bette was going to be nominated for an Oscar for the part. I truly wish she had been. She probably would have lost to Jodi Foster (again) but to nab a nomination after 4 successful comedies AND to win Record of the Year at the Grammys for Wind Beneath my Wings would possibly propelled Midler to that higher level in Hollywood where the better scripts and directors could be found. Bette was the highest page actress at that time but Hollywood was still unsure of Midler. Beaches leaves you with the feeling of appreciation.....appreciation for friends, family and the years spent together. A lovely surprise in this film is Midler's voice. Her vocal range in this film great and her voice is smooth. I truly prefer her to Barbara Streisand. This film grossed almost 100 million in the US. It made it to number one and the soundtrack is Midler's best selling LP of all time (but if you like Beaches Soundtrack I highly recommend her Bette LP out in 2001). Unlike Goldie Hawn, Barbara Streisand, and Jodie Foster, Midler never found her footing in Hollywood. I tend not to blame her (although she should have done Misery when asked). In retrospect, her powerhouse performance in Beaches, along with her number 1 hit Wind Beneath my Wings, plus coming off the heals of 4 successful comedies for Disney....Bette deserved to be offered more serious and diverse leading lady parts off the Disney lot. However, I bet in Midler's heart, she felt truly proud and happy that she created a dramatic piece of film that celebrated friendship and was embraced by the American public. Bette Midler is a true talent and I'm excited to see her next film Mae West for HBO.

I love this movie so much!!! Even though I cry every time I watch it I still love it! Barbara and Bette did an amazing job!❤️❤️I LOVE YOU BARBARA HERSHEY❤️❤️
