The Little Engine That Could

The classic book was turned into a great computer animated movie I loved, great story, characters, and animation! This movie has some great voice cast like, Whoopie Goldberg, Patrick Warburtuon, Jodi Benson, Corbin Bleu, and Jamie Lee Curtis. The nightmare train was a bit disturbing towards the end of the film, but the movie was still fresh from start to finish!

This movie took the world by storm

I love the old 1991 version of this story. When I started watching this movie, I wasn't very impressed because I felt like they messed up all the characters. Also the railroad was in the "real world" in the 1991 movie, but in "Dreamland" in this movie. This change bothered me for a while, especially when the boy came to Dreamland. But once the Little Engine got on the old track over the mountain, I started to see how the movie would come together. The creators seemed to be working towards a goal of making the film seem like it was the old railroad in the future and seemed to be trying to show how it had grown and changed. The old tracks over the mountain were extremely similar to the 1991 version with the bridge and its collapse, and the big hill. The introduction of the Dream-Reality Continuum was a good way to bring havoc to the tunnel when the boy came to Dreamland. But, I feel that the old movie put the "I think I can" theme more in the forefront than this movie. This movie seemed to mix "I think I can" with standing up to bullies and fear. It almost seems as if there were two main conflicts; the bullies at school and getting the real boy back to the real world. Anyway, this movie is very well written and conveys all the messages greatly. I also feel that the music in the 1991 version was a lot better. All in all, this is a pretty good movie, and the above is my opinion, but "Don't Judge a Book [or in this case Movie] by its Cover". Watch it once and make your decision.

My three-year-old son loves this movie to pieces, and it doesn't get annoying after repeated views. It's songs are cute, the voices are decent, it's colorful, and my son wasn't afraid of the Nightmare Train at all.

My 14 month old loves this movie. He asks to play it all the time. He grrrrs at the nightmare train and luckily is not afraid.

My daughter is 2 and she absolutely loves this movie. She didn't get scared of the nightmare train. She just called it the ugly or bad train. She's always asking to watch "engine".

My son was obsessed with cars until he saw this movie. He's a little over 2 and he didn't get scared of this nightmare train that others are talking about. This movie is highly entertaining and has cute music. My son is addicted to this movie and wants to watch it daily.

This wonderful classic is wrecked by the introduction of a Nightmare train. Shame on you Hollywood.

We are very disappointed that they adapted a classic children's story, added a great cast, and then proceed to ruin it by adding a very evil character. The first half of the movie flows exactly as you would expect and the gang gets into predictable trouble on their journey. Instead of finding help on their way, they introduce a Nightmare Train that is serves no purpose other than to terrify kids. Beware if your kids are sensitive!
