Description

In 1974, Ntozake Shange’s choreopoem “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf” made its stage debut, combining poetry, dance and music, and most significantly, placing the black female experience center stage. In lyrical, honest, angry, funny and tender language, Shange’s “colored girls” evoked the feelings woven into the fabric of black female life in America. Within two years, the play became a Broadway sensation, won an Obie and Tony Award, and would eventually be produced in regional theaters throughout the country. Now, thirty six years later, filmmaker Tyler Perry adapts this landmark work for the big screen, integrating the vivid language of Shange’s poems into a contemporary narrative that explores what it means to be a woman of color - and a woman of any color - in this world. FOR COLORED GIRLS weaves together the stories of nine different women – Joanna, Tangie, Crystal, Gilda, Kelly, Juanita, Yasmine, Nyla and Alice – as they move into and out of one another’s existences; some are well known to one another, others are as yet strangers. Crises, heartbreaks and crimes will ultimately bring these nine women fully into the same orbit where they will find commonality and understanding. Each will speak her truth as never before. And each will know that she is complete as a human being, glorious and divine in all her colors.

The movie was amazing but I didn't like how each color represented by each woman didn't go along with the original poem. I enjoyed the movie, I even paid $2.99 to watch it because I REALLY wanted to see what it was all about. Tyler Perry movies are great! Wish the story plot was a little bit different though.

This movie was not supposed to represent ALL black girls! It's a great movie, it doesn't matter what race you are, this movie can apply to white, Mexican, Asians any women. It has very Depth to it that people cannot see. Like Michael ealy character had a condition , that most people don't know about.

As a WOMAN period I was completely offended by this movie on so many levels... As a Strong Black WOMAN, it was a ultimate slap in the face. This movie portrayed us as Ignorant, Dependent, & Weak. What's worst of all a Black MAN Directed this movie... So this is how he sees women of his own RACE!?! If anything this was a RACIST movie done by a Black man to make Black Ppl look like we don't have a DROP of sense God Giving Us.

I am not a colored girl but a colored man and frankly it thrills me to see that many beautiful people of color in a film, especially a film by a man of color. I am not a movie expert, however, I do know what makes "me" feel good and what I enjoy watching. This movie not only made me feel good it makes me want to buy any Tyler Perry film. Any film that is produced by Tyler Perry that is rated by the experts as rotten I will definitely be buying in the future.

This is a movie geared toward African AMerican women. Not to be racially dividing but if you are not a African American women this movie may not touch you as much. I personally appreciate this movie. Not only was it intense and raw, but it had great acting in it from Phylicia Rashad to Kerry Washington. I loved this movie because it made me leave the theatre thinking about how I should see the world.

I loved it. To be honest, most people can't even understand what is going on during the movie because of lack of intelligence. It isn't a film that everyone will love, but it has something to it that just made a large impression on me. It was unbelievable! This film had the courage to push certain boundaries and wasn't scared to go all the way. *SPOILER ALERT* When the two children died, I was in utter disbelief because most films wouldn't do something like that. Most would say it was too heartless, but that is just what it had the most of.
