Description

Life seems perfect for John Brennan (Russell Crowe) until his wife, Lara (Elizabeth Banks), is arrested for a murder she says she didn't commit. Three years into her sentence, John is struggling to hold his family together, raising their son Luke (Ty Simpkins) and teaching at community college while he pursues every means available to prove her innocence. With the rejection of their final appeal, Lara becomes suicidal and John decides there is only one possible, bearable solution: to break his wife out of prison. Refusing to be deterred by impossible odds or his own inexperience, John devises an elaborate escape plot and plunges into a dangerous and unfamiliar world, ultimately risking everything for the woman he loves.

I was ready to really enjoy this film: but it was so dull and dreadful that I had a very hard time watching it. I don’t know who did that painfully dismal boring score, but the music probably ruined the film all by itself – although, the story didn’t help much either. The score sounded like a child picking out one note at a time on a piano and dragging it out forever. It was completely horrible. If there were a way to turn off the goddamn score to this film and watch it without the music, that might have helped a little bit, or perhaps a lot. Paul Haggis: I am sorry to say this but you have written and directed an extraordinarily boring film. Please step outside of yourself and take a look from a distance. You need someone else to write your material and probably someone else to direct it.

I loved this film for the simple fact that it could happen to any one of us. Terrific script exellent perfomrances and Crowes morphing from a dad to a killer.
  • Great Thriller, Satisfying Ending, Superb Acting!

One of my fears while watching this movie was how it was going to end. As the movie paces through the first half, you start to get the feeling that this film may fall victim to filmmakers who lack the courage to finish their story with resolution... something a lot of directors do under the blanket of artistic disguise that is sometimes nothing more than an inability to finish the story under time (or budget). This film will not disappoint. Although there are moments when you wish the film spent more time on developing critical plot lines, overall (and due to the superb, highly experienced acting), the film simply works and satisfies.
  • An excellent, well told love story

It may not be the ultimate masterpiece, but this movie is way better than 90% of the other ones out there. Watch it, enjoy it and think about what true love is.

Not really a good movie at all, it takes too long for the action to kick in.
  • Not Enough

Tough to characterize this movie not enough action, not enough drama, not enough suspense, and definitely not enough believability. Probably do better picking a different movie.
  • Heart stopping!
