Description

The Pillars of the Earth is a sweeping epic of good and evil, treachery and intrigue, violence and beauty. This sensuous, spirited and passionate story is set against a backdrop of war, religious strife and power struggles which tears lives and families apart. In that time, there rises a magnificent Cathedral in Kingsbridge. Against this backdrop, human dramas and love stories entwine: Tom, the master builder, Aliena, the noblewoman, the sadistic Lord William, Philip, the prior of Kingsbridge, Jack, the artist in stone work and Ellen, the woman from the forest who casts a curse. At once, this is a sensuous and enduring love story and an epic that shines with the fierce spirit of a passionate age. Ken Follett masterfully weaves these stories through the political turmoil of 12th century England, creating a relevant and viable world for today's audience and for generations to come.

I viewed part one as a rental. It seems the rental option is NOT available for part two!? This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever! Obviously NOT buying the finale -- why no rental option? 'Glad I read the book -- I know how it ends!

i guess when you produce soap operas for mass consumption it requires a certain degree of pandering. but this, produced by the Scott brothers, is really bad. i bought the first part, hoping to find something to hook me into the story, instead it was a non-stop barrage of bad dialogue, terrible acting, and repetitive God utterances. and cheap CGI. was this a History Channel production?
  • Not as good as the book but still brilliant

I suspect in order to creative a exact movie presentation of the book, it would have required significantly a greater length. However, I think they kept the essence of the book and condensed aspects keeping key characters at the fore. It would have been nice to see the full time line of events kept a little closer to the book, but nonetheless, it is an incredible story and the movie adaptation kept to the essence of the book. The casting was also very good and the main characters reflected the book well.
