Description

Set in the midst of the Taiping Rebellion of the 1860s, THE WARLORDS stars Jet Li as General Pang, who barely survives a brutal massacre of his fellow soldiers by playing dead, and joins a band of bandits led by Er Hu (Andy Lau) and Wu Yang (Takeshi Kaneshiro). After fighting back attackers for a defenseless village, the three men take an oath to become "blood brothers," pledging loyalty to one another until death, but things quickly turn sour and the three men become embroiled in a web of political deceit, and a love triangle between Pang, Er Hu and a beautiful courtesan (Wu Jing-Lei).

I saw this movie in it's original format & would like to own it that way. The film is amazing & english dubbing depreciates these films, IMO. If anyone can provide the language information (subtitled or english) it would be much appreciated.

All of us battle with these terms...everyday. Some days we win however, on the days we lose this battle, relationships suffer and can even become irrepairable. This movie depicts this battle and the ramifications made from individual choices all the while weaving historical events about an unsolved murder. Well written, well directed, well acted and worth viewing. I disagree with 65% Tomatometer---this is a classic and a movie I will watch again and again.

Why is it that in all these Chinese movies the heroes die in the end? It's a sickness, this love of slaughtering the main characters, and makes you wonder if it isn't a subtle message to the people, be a hero, and you die. Red Cliff is a notable exception, but the only one.

It is a shame that a fine movie such as this is not on the mainstream cinema circuit in America. To often we are tied to Hollywood "Blockbusters" (which are usually --just okay--) while a movie like Warlords is reserved for small venues in large cities. This movie is more than great ! It is not only worth the rental price but well worth the purchase price. Thank you Apple, for finding such gems as this and putting it up for us to see. Now, after you buy this, go check out OLD BOY, another film you will not be sorry you bought.

After the battle scenes (which only occur in the first hour) are over, the movie becomes very lame very fast. All they do is cry throughout the whole film; I found myself laughing quite a bit. Worth a rent, NOT a purchase.

Its much less the martial arts type of movie I had expected it to be, or perhaps wanted it to be. It was a good war movie though. Very dramatic, and somewhat confusing too, not just in the plot, but also about the characters. I did not understand some of the things they did and why... but these things were not over bearing on my movie experience. The most annoying was how Li's character so easily became blood brothers with the other two men, when the other two knew each other for a much longer time. Although, the characters were really interesting. There didn't seem to be a good guy side in this movie really. Just that everyone suffered and had to make tough decisions. Good movie, very enjoyable.

One reviewer said it best - war is indeed hell. And war is all the more hellish when everyone else is depending on 3 men to lead them to victory. But it becomes even more difficult when one of the 3 gives in to his own selfish needs. This is a bit of a departure for actor Jet Li but he has nailed this part well & made me a believer. This movie is filled with heart, passion, backstabbing, glory, & failure. Kudos to all the actors. This is mire than a must see, it is definately a movie to include in your movie library. Definately deserving of all 5 stars.

This movie betrays war in its purest form: hell. The sides and motives are not always clear. What is clear is that everyone is suffering, both sides wish for an end and relief. An excellent movie that portrays the bond of three blood-brothers as they struggle to survive. They fight not for their country, but for their brothers and their men. This movie makes war seem so un-glorifying, so hard, and so gritty, that it will make you question your love for glorified war movies. Amazing story, amazing actors, amazing war scenes. Five our of five. - Era
